Review of Year Zero
In The Descent, New York Times bestselling author Jeff Long led readers into the darkest regions of suspense and adventure. Now he returns with an apocalyptic scenario that threatens to eradicate mankind.
In Jerusalem, an American archaeologist working on Project Year Zero -- the search for the historical Jesus -- crosses the line between science and theft when he helps plunder an old Roman landfill beneath the crucifixion grounds known as Golgotha. Nathan Lee Swift's crime will have devastating consequences. When an ancient relic is opened on the black market, a two-thousand-year-old plague is unleashed -- and the dying begins.
As the pestilence threatens to wipe out humanity, he finds a chance for redemption -- by finding the cure. Skirting the edges of civilization, Nathan Lee sets out to find his younger daughter and travels to Los Alamos, where a desperate tactic has been adopted: the use of human lab rats cloned from Project Year Zero remains. Now Nathan Lee will come face-to-face with one special cloned human who may hold the key to salvation -- in more ways than one. Patient Zero claims to remember who he is....
And his name is Jesus Christ.

disappointing
This was recommended by Amazon based on my so-called tastes. I was so disappointed. It is not so much a post-apocalypse book as a book on cloning. I pretty much didn't care about anyone in the book - even the female 'lead' character who was beautiful but immoral. And that's what the author seems to be saying: cloning without morals or compassion is evil. I can agree with that, but it doesn't make for a 'good' story.

Great premise, solid execution!
I really enjoyed this book - especially the whole premise, but it did have some holes and it definitely skipped over parts that I wanted to know more about. Also, the end seemed a little abrupt. Still, I would recommend this one.

Near Zero
This book is utter nonsense. Some scientific mumbo-jumbo, seems the author has read up on some genetics & embryology & then taken that to ridiculous extremes. And some ideas show a complete lack of understanding of scientific concepts (genetic memory, skin cells & nerve cells being the 'same') etc. I couldn't care less about the characters, & the writing is for the most part stilted.

Extremely Slow
I was very dissappointed in this book. It is so slow..I still haven't finished it. Jumps around so much you can't tell up from down. Not worth your effort.

One of the most boring books I've ever tried to read.
From the back cover, this book sounds great and really interesting. The idea of cloning Jesus is a fascinating idea. Unfortunately, the writing is very far from fascinating. However, even reading more of a third of it, I find it intensely and incredibly boring. No central character, the subplots barely, by the very thinnest thread, tie together. Action is next to nil. I'm up to page 175 and I don't think I can stand the boredom any longer and will have trade it in at the local used book store.
As an addendum to this review, I will add that after years of studying the problem of whether or not there ever actually was a historical person we know as Jesus, I will have to say that I have come to the conclusion there never, ever was a Jesus. No supporting credible evidence what so ever. And hundreds, even thousands of scholars have tried to prove there was, and all have failed. But for those who still believe in myths, this book may be more interesting than it was for me.
