Review of Queen Bee of Mimosa Branch: A Novel
Linwood Scott has been a Georgia housewife for nearly 30 years. So when her husband cleans out their bank accounts and runs off with a stripper, Lin has nowhere to go. With trepidation, Lin returns home to her eccentric family. As she explores her new sigle status, she also learns surprising lessons about her family, namely that appearances are deceptive and that love can inhabit even the most dysfunctional of relationships. Joy-filled and moving, this novel draws a picture of Southern life readers will never forget.

Racist
Well, I must say that I am far from a fifty year old Southern Belle. Maybe you need to be from Georgia to truly enjoy this book. I went with it. I finished it. Even found some parts funny. However, I cannot help to think that Haywood Smith is quite racist. She keeps being nostalgic about the way her old Georgia used to be. It is no longer the same she says as she describes all the different cultures that she observes. Don't get me wrong. She does not come out and say it. If you read the book, you will know what I am talking about. It is hard to explain. Read this quote from the book "An Oriental couple--Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese? I could never tell--hovered close to the register...A young black couple with a runny-nosed baby argued in some kind of an indecipherable rap jargon..." Wow! I really think that she is going for strictly White Southern Belle middle-age woman as her audience. I am quite surprised she has continued to publish to be honest.

Funny Funny Funny
I LOVED THIS BOOK! It is one of my all time favorites. I am ordering some for Christmas presents and another copy for myself since it has been ages since I read this book and I would like to reread it for fun.
FYI I am from the south so I get it.

Had the good sense to quit reading
I only picked up this book because of the endorsements by Sandra Dallas and Trigiani. Somewhere around page 80 I realized it just wasn't going to get any better, and I decided to cut my losses and quit reading. I won't bother to reiterate what the one and two star reviewers wrote, except that I echo their sentiments. There are too many good books out there to waste my time with a silly yawn.

Haywood Smith Changed My Life!
Found this book to be very light and enjoyable reading.
However, in all seriousness there was an exchange between the main character and her best friend concerning how even at the age of fifty (50) how difficult it can be to deal with our Mother's comments.
The friend comments: "Well you know the secret, don't you?"
My eyes got larger. Could it really be in this light fiction reading was the answer I have been searching for myself for many decades.
I kept reading with whatever the equivalent for the eyes is for the phrase "baited breathe."
The answer was pure and simple. Refreshing and miraculous. Why had I not thought of it myself.
Laugh. Now the author did not go into the "manners" of laughing, but I am assuming it was meant in a light, respectful way. Not a side-ripping laugh uncontrollably until you need new underwear way.
Unfortunatly my own Mother has passed away - but I am not undaunted. I am going to apply the principal to two other audiences who are oh so hard to engage in conversation with at times. Teenagers and bosses.
If my children excommunicate me, or I am walking the unemployment line I will find you Haywood Smith ... I will find you!
