Review of Jack & Jill (Alex Cross)
A controversial U.S. Senator is found murdered in his Georgetown bed. On the other side of town, a beautiful little girl is found dead, savagely beaten. Washington, D.C. homicide detective Alex Cross is brought in to try to find a connection between the two murders--even as the killer strikes again. No one in Washington is safe--not children, not politicians, not even the President of the United States. Cross has impressive skills and the courage to match, but can he discover the truth in time?.

Lots of Kindle Typos
The book was excellent but the kindle version has lots of typos which made it frustrating at times to read.

Jack & Jill
Another great James Patterson novel in the Alex Cross series. I do not think there is a more intriguing character than Cross. I have read several, but not always in order, which limits the enjoyment. Would recommend any of the Alex Cross series. A spell binder. [...]

mediocre story
As far as murder mystery type stories like this one, I consider Jack and Jill to be well below average. Not unreadablely bad, but just thoroughly mediocre. The killers are not very interesting, and their motivations are never really clear. There is a strange side-plot about a jouvenille killer, which doesn't seem to add much to the story. And then there is Alex Cross, who seems to solve this one on pure luck. Not a very compelling story at all.
The audiobook is average or better in terms of production values. The reader is pretty good, and they have some nice variety of voices and sounds etc. But nothing really stood out. Perhaps the cast had trouble getting excited about this dreary story just like the rest of us did.

Cross this Cross off your list!
This is more of the same litany of complaints Patterson foists on his protagonist Dr. Cross about the inequality between blacks and whites in the criminal justice system. We know it exists in real life, but Patterson belabors the point, especially since we know the author will have Cross working both sides of the street, so why get into this bathos? Let's get on with solving the mysteries! And in a book that is supposed to be about solving a mystery (or two), police procedure is seriously lacking. Patterson has Dr. Cross looking at "patterns" vs. good police work that would ask obvious questions (like who was the victim last seen with?) and assessing actual evidence. Finally, the dual plots--"Jack and Jill" and the "Sojourner Truth Child Killer"--become so complicated that even the seemingly omnipotent Cross can't ferret out the patterns and he wanders aimlessly through the book coming in on the tail end of all the plots the author has hatched and not one of them solved through his ministrations. The ending is maudlin and a ridiculous playing with the fates. Shame on you, Mr. Patterson. You just wrote this one for the money.

Black Widow
This is not one of my favorites. Even though it is not that well written it still kept my attention. The plot involves a singer Maggie Bradford who is on trial for the murder of Will Shepard who was famous in the athletic world. The plot thickens when it appears that she may have murdered two husbands. Is she a Black Widow? Pick it up you will like it.
