Rare window into the lives of real early Americans...
I was a student in Lisa Wilson's Colonial America course at Connecticut College. In addition to being an incredible professor, she is also a great storyteller. Most people are briefly, if ever exposed to letters, diaries and manuscripts of early Americans aside from those of famous historical figures.
Lisa Wilson brings everyday Colonial Americans to life in "Ye Heart of a Man" -- a rare and unique window into the daily lives of men, manhood and courtship in Colonial New England. Colonial diaries and letters often document events, chores and weather...making this book all the more refreshing to read about the feelings, perspectives and emotions of real people in Early America. Lisa Wilson weaves a tapestry of matters of the heart! It is very interesting (and humorous!) to read the trials and tribulations of courtship of early Americans and to learn of the emphasis on romantic love in the late colonial period. Highly Recommended! *****
