Review of Y: The Last Man Vol. 3: One Small Step
A perfect blend of humor and drama, Y: THE LAST MAN – ONE SMALL STEP is a fascinating tale of catastrophe and consequences. After a mysterious occurrence instantaneously killed every male human on Earth, twenty-something escape artist Yorick Brown suddenly found himself as the last man alive on a planet inhabited solely by females. But when Yorick and his secret service bodyguard learn of a Russian spaceship with two healthy males on board, they quickly journey to its projected landing site in Kansas to see if the rumor is true. Now as Yorick and Agent 355 wait to see if the cosmonauts will survive their return to Earth’s atmosphere, a zealous faction of the Israeli military attempt to kidnap the last man for their own nefarious purposes.

My favorite volume of the series
This entire series is amazing, but if I have to pick my favorite volume, it's volume 3, One Small Step. If you've already read the first two volumes, no doubt you'll want to continue the series. I think this was the most exciting of the stories, and it really kept me turning the pages just as quickly as I could. Best series of the decade, hands down.

A solid instalment, with some light relief.
The third trade paperback of the Y: The Last Man run of comics, this instalment sees Yorick and co interrupted on their journey by Israeli forces and descending astronauts.
The story is strong and self-contained in this edition; there's a nice little two-parter with theatrical themes that appears at the end of the major arc (about returning spacemen) which serves to lighten the mood a little - something necessary, I think, given the general seriousness of the work.

Best comic I have ever read
Not just this specific graphic novel, but the entire series is the best comic series I have ever read. The writing is fantastic Vaughn captures the drastic nature of how bad the world has gotten in this post- apocalyptic world he has created, however has the added humor from Yorick and his one-liners. I bought the first TPB to read during a road trip I took a weeks ago and found it to be so great that I ordered the rest of the series from Amazon to be at my home when I got back and read the rest of them within two days. It is that good and anyone who has enjoyed comics like Watchmen, Sandman, Sin City, and any other mature readers comic should read all of these.

one of the greatest stories in comics
I was turned on to Y The Last Man at work when I saw someone with the comic. I asked him what it was about and he told me. Being a fan of post-apocolyptica, I asked if it was any good. He looked straight into my eyes and said, "I don't read crap, man." If you looked at the guy, a stereotypical comic book/gaming nerd, you could tell he knew his stuff.
I went home and bought all the available graphic novels, 6 at the time. I have no regrets. I have since lent these novels to about a dozen people and they all loved it.
This comic perfectly blends action, comedy, sci-fi, romance, and drama together to create a world where women rule.

Very thin plot.
I kept wondering why Yoricks mother would betray him, she must have know that if the Israelis got him she would never see him again. And why would the Israelis try to kill the astronauts, it almost felt Anti-Semitic it was so irrational. Very weak plot in this story arch.
The second part of the of the book is much better though. It pokes fun at prevous issues and the characters are great. I almost wish we could forget about Yorick and focus on the troup of actors from now on.
