The third novel in the Chronicles of the Vampires trilogy, The Queen of the Damned takes readers back 6,000 years to the beginnings of vampirism and leads them across the vast, richly detailed tapestry of the violent and sensual world of vampiredom, finally bringing forth the 20th-century fate of the living dead.

Second Best in the Series
Queen of the Damned always makes me think about Hawaii, I read it for the first time when I was on vacation there and now my every memory of that trip is permeated Anne Rice's captivating prose and the sheer brilliance of the story itself. I fell in love with the Vampire Chronicles immediately after reading Interview With the Vampire and I kept on reading after that. After The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned is my second favorite novel in the series. With every novel I fell more and more in love with Lestat, entranced by his charisma and charm. Though I did get bored with some parts as Rice switched between character views I always enjoyed the parts with Lestat as well as Armand. With this novel Rice draws the reader even deeper into her world of vampires spawned by an ancient Egyptian queen: Akasha. I would definitely recommend this book, it is one of my favorites! Oh and for anyone who is curious I watched the 2002 movie version starring Aaliyah and Stuart Townsend as soon as I finished the book and was sorely disappointed. The movie doesn't do the book justice and apart from Stuart Townsend the casting was atrocious! If you didn't like the movie don't give up on this book, trust me it is worth it!

Solid book, one of Ms. Rice's best
Ordinarily, for a book I enjoyed so much, I would give it five stars. The Legend of the Twins was actually my favorite story arc in Queen of the Damned, and the Twins are two of my favorite characters. Infact, I'd say that this book is my favorite in the entire Vampire Chronicles.
But the reason I take away a star is due to the abrupt ending. It is clear that Akasha is deluded in her thinking, and that what she believes is good for mankind is not. But I wonder after 6000 years of sleep, she would have the wisdom to see a better path, unless these 6000 years spent in silence (except for exceedingly rare occasions) served to warp and twist her mind. This in itself is an entirely believable character.
However, the very ending left me flat. I had to read the last chapter several times to make sure that I hadn't missed anything. I wish that Ms. Rice had put more of Mekare in future books, perhaps learning about modern society and getting used to her new role as Queen. The ending was far too abrupt and not well-thought out for a tale that was incredible.

Third in the Vampire Trilogy - Not as good
The final installment of Ann Rice's original Vampire trilogy. It is the most boring of the three, and marks the beginning of Ms. Rice decay and transformation into a commercial writer

Queen of the Damned
When I started this book, I really had problems getting into it. I think that the problem for me was that it skipped around quite a bit between characters in the beginning and tried to introduce several new ones only to kill off some of them immediatly. In essence, I guess it took me out of my comfort zone and I wasn't too sure that I liked it.
But, perseverance paid off and after 150 pages or so, I found myself drawn deeply into this robust story. The book is well written, taking us between current events happening with our vampire friends and deeper into the vampire mythology than we have ever been. Most of this novel focuses on the creation of the vampire race and it certainly does not disappoint. Mrs. Rice has created a rich, lush background for her version of the vampire species and by linking them to current events happening to her characters, she makes the history itself come alive...literally!

Better Than *The Vampire Lestat*
I enjoyed this one much more than the _The Vampire Lestat_. Perhaps because there was a great deal more action, or perhaps because there were more familiar characters.
The different voices throughout were very interesting and I must admit that I enjoyed the others more than Lestat.
It would be, however, impossible not reading these last two books back-to-back, as they flow together rather seamlessly. And while I am curious as to what happens next (and I do have the next book) I think I need to take a bit of a break, as the sections that move slowly absolutely drag on and I don't really have the stamina for that right now.
