Famke Janssen (Famke Beumer Janssen) is a Dutch actress, director, screenwriter, and former fashion model. She was given both her mother and father’s surname (Beumer and Janssen) but uses Janssen. She was born November 5, 1964 in Amstelveen, Noord-Holland, Netherlands. Her two sisters; director Antoinette Beumer and actress Marjolein Beumer changed their surnames to Beumer. Her sisters have blonde hair with blue eyes, and Famke has brunette hair. Famke is 5 ft 11.5 in (181.6 cm) and speaks Dutch, English, French and a tiny amount of German. She studied economics at the University of Amsterdam for one year after graduating from high school. She stated that studying economics is "the stupidest idea I ever had."

Famke moved to the United States in 1984 to pursue her career in being a fashion model. She had a contract with Elite Model Management. She worked for several of companies including Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Victoria's Secret and starred in perfume commercial Exclamation by Coty, Inc. in 1988. She retired from modeling in the early 1990s and started to appear on television shows. She also studied literature and creative writing at Columbia University at the beginning of the 1990s. She had a role as metamorphic Kamala in Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Perfect Mate" in 1992.

She is known for her role as Xenia Onatopp in Pierce Brosnan's first James Bond film, GoldenEye (1995), Jean Grey/Phoenix in the X-Men film series (2000–present), Ava Moore on Nip/Tuck, Lenore Mills in Taken (2008), Taken 2 (2012) and Taken 3 (2014). She received Hollywood Life's Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award for her role as Ava Moore in Nip/Tuck TV series. Famke provides the Dutch-language narration for all Disney theme park Studio Tram Tours. Famke married writer and director Kip Williams in 1995 and divorced in 2000. She ate almonds and dried cranberries every day while filming X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). The Shining (1980) is her favorite horror movie, and she is a huge fan of Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep. She is a vegetarian and lives in New York City.
