Howling II Review

Synopsis:

A young man whose sister was murdered by werewolves helps an investigator track down a gang of the monsters through the United States and Europe.

The Howling 2 (1985) is an American action thriller horror movie that is also known as The Howling II: Your Sister Is a Werewolf (1985), and the original title was Howling II: Stirba – Werewolf Bitch (1985). Director Philippe Mora (Mad Dog Morgan (1976), The Marsupials: The Howling III (1987), Communion (1989), Brother Can You Spare a Dime (1975)) did not do such a great job executing this sequel to The Howling (1981). Christopher Lee (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002), The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002), Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)) stars as Stefan Crosscoe. Christopher Lee stars alongside two other famous actors as they try to stop werewolves from taking over the world. The movie contains bad language, nudity, and graphic violence, scary scenes that kids should not see and terrible dialogue.

Karen’s (from the previous film, The Howling (1981)) brother Ben White (Reb Brown - Space Mutiny (1988), Yor, the Hunter from the Future (1983), Uncommon Valor (1983)) is seen attending Karen’s funeral. Ben met Karen’s colleagues, Jenny Templeton (Annie McEnroe - Beetlejuice (1988), Wall Street (1987), True Stories (1986), The Hand (1981)) and others. He also met a mysterious stranger, Stefan Crosscoe (Christopher Lee) who tells him that Karen was a werewolf and showed Ben videotapes of the werewolf transformation. Stefan attended the funeral to destroy Karen’s body. He also wanted to convince Ben and Jenny to help him fight an immortal werewolf queen name Stirba (Sybil Danning - Grindhouse (2007)Halloween Halloween (2007), Hercules (1983), Battle Beyond the Stars (1980)) in Transylvania. It is a fight to the end. Who will win? Will the winner be Stefan and his crew or the werewolf queen and her clan?

I gave this movie a three because the city of Transylvania was nice and I like it, and the camera tricks were done nicely. I also gave the movie a three because little effort was seen and also because of Christopher Lee’s performance.

The reasons why I gave the movie a three:

  • Most of the actors performances were below average except for Christopher Lee.
  • It was an awful, dreadful sequel that came nowhere close to The Howling (1981).
  • Terrible script/storyline/dialogue.
  • The director did not succeed in doing a good job directing his crew.
  • The editing.
  • The special effects were terrible, and that was most likely the main reason most of the transformation was done in the dark.
  • Why in the world do we need to see a werewolf orgy and why do we need to see the werewolf queen, Sybil Danning topless over five times, why?
