Synopsis:A British college professor working in Russia investigates certain mysteries surrounding the life and death of Joseph Stalin.
Archangel (2005) is a UK drama mystery crime TV movie that is based on author Robert Harris novel by the same name. Director Jon Jones (When I’m Sixty-Four (2004), Northanger Abbey (2007), Going Postal (2010)) did a great job with this TV movie. Jon Jones did an incredible job introducing us to each character. I would not recommend this movie although I gave it a five because it was a little dull.
Archangel is about Christopher going on a search mission to find the deceased dictator’s secret son who turns out to be not so average. Professor Christopher Fluke Kelso (Daniel Craig - Skyfall (2012), Casino Royale (2006), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), Quantum of Solace (2008)) is a historian professor met who Papu Rapava at a conference in Moscow. Papu Rapava (Valery Chernyak) told Christopher that he was there when dictator Josef Stalin (Avtandil Makharadze - Repentance (1984), 13 Tzameti (2005), Rcheuli (1991)) died, and Lavrenty Beria hid Joseph’s secret diary. Soviet Communist Party dictator Josef Stalin died on March 2, 1953 ending an era in Soviet history that were good and bad for some people. Papu said that he knew that he is still being spied on and will not go to the secret diary to reveal its location. He told Christopher that he stayed in Kolyma for several years so that he can keep away from all who seeks to torture him to find the location of the book. Christopher went in search of the secret diary after Papu was captured and beaten to death because he refused to reveal the location of the book. Christopher found the secret diary/book that Papu gave his daughter before being captured. Stalin’s secret diary contains who is the mother to his secret son and also the heir. Christopher found Josef’s secret son in Arkhangelsk. Stalin’s son looks exactly like him and stays in a cabin that has a lot of things that belong to his father. Stalin’s son is not as innocent as he looks as he has killed the agents that took care of him.
Stalin’s son thinks he is at the age to govern his country and leaves his hidden place to board a train that goes to Moscow. What follows was unexpected and you will have to watch the movie to see. The acting, set and style of the movie was good.
