Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III Review
Synopsis:A California couple and a survivalist encounter Leatherface and his family.
Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990) is an American slasher thriller horror movie that fell short of the prequel The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). Director Jeff Burr (Land of the Lost (1991), Straight Into Darkness (2004), Stepfather II (1989)) did not put his best foot forward in this movie as it left a bland taste in my mouth. I did not overly enjoy it or dislike it, but I definitely will not be watching this movie again unless I am doing a chainsaw marathon. The movie contains sexual content/language, nude images, extreme violence, bad language, little thrills, not much suspense and a few intense fight scenes.
The movie starts by showing us Leatherface (R.A. Mihailoff - Hatchet II (2010), Drive (1997), License to Drive (1988)) bludgeoning Gina (Beth DePatie - Dead Man (1995), Mallrats (1995), The Midnight Meat Train (2008)) with a sledgehammer. He killed her and then began cutting her face off to make a mask; totally grossed me out. Sara (Toni Hudson - Just One of the Guys (1985), Places in the Heart (1984), Uninvited (1988)) is horrified while watching her sister’s murder through the window. Leatherface heard her but was too late upon looking outside because Sara had already fled the scene. Later we see Michelle (Kate Hodge - Rapid Fire (1992), She-Wolf of London (1990), The Hidden II (1993)) and her boyfriend Ryan (William Butler - Madhouse (2004), Furnace (2007), Gingerdead Man 3: Saturday Night Cleaver (2011)) traveling through Texas. They stopped at a gas station to fill their tank up and asked for directions. They met hitchhiker Tex (Viggo Mortensen - A History of Violence (2005), The Road (2009), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)) who gave them direction. The gas station’s owner Alfredo (Tom Everett - Dances with Wolves (1990), Air Force One (1997)) is caught peeping on Michelle while she is using the restroom. Tex got enraged at Alfredo, and they began fighting. Michelle and Ryan saw Alfredo shooting Tex as they drove away.
The couple thought they were free, but behold, they encounter one disaster after the next. Watch the movie if you dare to see what I am referring to. You will meet new characters throughout the film. The movie is good, but it does not fulfill my expectations after seeing the other films. Will Michelle and her guy survive?? I think the movie would have been a better watch if it had fewer characters running around. The sets were good, and the actors did a great job as always.
