Review of Damien: Omen II
Several years after the mysterious events that claimed the life of the U.S. Ambassador and his wife, the now teenaged and militarily enrolled Damien Thorne is slowly being made aware of his unholy heritage and horrific destiny. Woe is he (including anyone in Damien's adoptive family and his classmates) who suspects the truth or gets in his way. While not as unrelentingly frightening as its blockbuster predecessor, this more-than-competent sequel to The Omen raises some interesting questions about the nature of free will (can the antichrist deny his birthright?) before falling into a gory series of increasingly outlandish deaths, the best of which is a terrifyingly protracted scene beneath the ice of a frozen lake. Jerry Goldsmith (who won an Oscar for his work on the first film in the series) contributes another marvelously foreboding score. --Andrew Wright

They Grow Up So Fast!...
Little Damien Thorn (Jonathan Scott-Taylor) turns 13yo in this overwrought, yet enjoyable follow-up to the classic original. Damien is now in the care of his aunt and uncle, played by Lee Grant (Visiting Hours, The Mafu Cage) and William Holden (Towering Inferno, Network). Damien is now a military academy cadet, watched over by the eeevil sgt. Neff, played by Lance Henriksen (Aliens, Pumpkinhead, Near Dark, Face The Evil) until his true destiny is revealed. Of Course, there are the usual goody-goody types who try to stop our favorite devilchild from reaching his full potential, but they are easily dispatched by an obligatory series of fatal "accidents". I especially liked the death-by-train-car and crow-attack sequences! D:O2 is a gloriously cheezy experience. Just hearing Holden and Grant yelling their lines is pure gold! Watch for Robert Foxworth (Prophecy) as a demonic corporate drone. Add this sequel to your satanic elf-shelf...

A passable sequel to the classic Omen
Following the events of the original Omen, Damien: The Omen 2 flashes forward seven years. Plot is in short supply here. Damien is now living with his aunt, uncle and cousin, and attends a prestigious military academy. Furthermore, Damien has reached adolescence and finally begins to figure out the truth about who he is: The son of satan himself. However, Damien isn't the only one that knows this, and anyone that dares to stand in his way quickly receives their come uppance.
Like the original Omen, Damien: The Omen 2 features a great cast and a nifty music score by Jerry Goldsmith. Unfortunately it lacks the brains, and the overbearing sense of dread and impending doom that made the original so memorable. In reality, The Omen 2 isn't much more than an enourmous montage of death scenes. Not that there's anything wrong with that. In fact these death scenes are creative, grisly, and very well done (Not to mention they're about the only interesting aspect of this movie). I guess it's just that by bearing the Omen name, I don't think it would be unfair to expect just a little more out of this.
There's some type of subplot about Damien's earthly sentinels helping him rise to the top of his father's empire, Thorn Industries, but it really only exists for the purpose of padding out the death scenes, and of course we all know how this movie will end anyhow. Overall, Damien: the Omen 2 is an entertaining time waster that isn't half as good as the original. Horror and Omen fans should get a kick out of it.

"A Good Sequel"
After the huge success of "The Omen" it was only a matter of time before the studio released a sequel. "The Omen 2" continues the story in which the child of the antichrist (Damien) is adopted by its aunt and uncle played by William Holden and Lee Grant. Damien is now in military school and his goal is to take over his uncle's business empire and to ultimately destroy the world. The film is not as strong in story as the original, but it's still well-written and acted. Fans who loved the first film will most likely enjoy this sequel. Lee Grant also gives a fasinating performance, the best in the movie.
The DVD only features commentary by the film's producer Harry Bernhard.
Most critics panned the film, but nevertheless it is a good sequel that would spawn more movies in "The Omen" franchise.
"The Omen 2" is also available in a beautiful boxset that contains all "The Omen" movies including the remake.

Damien: Omen 2 - Good, for a sequel.
Damien: Omen 2 - This film was a three to four star sequel. Building on the original Omen, this film had much going for it by way of very shocking special effects and movie magic. It also featured a fine cast, a good revival of the original musical score, and lots of atmosphere. I don't think it was quite as good as the original Omen or the recent remake, but it was good for a sequel.
Omen II came out like clockwork two years after the Omen. At the conclusion we saw young Damien standing "tall" triumphantly and realized that this story was far from over, and that Omen III would probably be out within a couple of years.
I first saw this film with my wife (who I again had to convince to see it) in 1978 at a local theater in Connecticut where it appeared to be quite popular with the audience. In fact, it was playing to packed houses for a couple of weeks. At the time I enjoyed it enough, but now find that I would rate it only between 3 and 4 stars.
