Residents of a coastal town learn, with deathly consequences, the secret shared by the two mysterious women who have sought shelter at a local resort.

Byzantium is about a mother (Clara - Gemma Arterton - Unfinished Song, Tamara Drewe, Clash of the Titans) and daughter (Eleanor - Saoirse Ronan - The Lovely Bones, Death Defying Acts, Atonement) who moves from one location to another continuously so that they can hide their identity as being vampires. One day they seek shelter in a rundown area where their secret will be exposed and so therefore there was a lot of blood shedding from that point on. I think all horror/vampire fans will love this movie for its originality and that it is not one of the average vampire movies you see these days. There is a vampire brotherhood group in this movie that thinks females should not be vampires so they were one of the reasons why the mother/daughter duo had to keep on moving. Clara and Eleanor tells everyone that they are sisters and that Clara is the guardian of Eleanor because their mother died. It is a movie that you have to pay attention to because details will be given throughout the movie that may answer questions you may have and connect everything in the end.

Byzantium directed by Neil Jordan (Ondine, Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, The Crying Game) is a really great horror movie in 2012. It contains nude/sex scenes, high intensity gore, violence, vampires, bad language, beheaded characters, lots of killing and lots of suspense. I enjoyed my one and half hour of watching this vampire movie and of course I would recommend all horror fans to see Byzantium. The gore factor was a little too much for me that day. I could not get the image out of my head where the mother was stabbing a man’s neck with her thumbnail. He deserved it for raping her daughter but it was sickening to my gut to see the way he died.

Byzantium had a really predictable ending although it was full of suspense and all mentioned above. It is still a great movie overall and I would actually see it again. Byzantium is not another Twilight Saga movie for those of you who are wondering. It is different from Twilight and more original, no sparkling guys here in the sun. If you like Interview With A Vampire then you will definitely like this movie. A few things this movie did not contain was holy water, crosses to ward off the vampires, coffins and squeaky doors to give away when a thriller scene is about to happen. Actress Gemma Arterton did an exceptionally amazing job with her role in this movie. I honestly believed she was one of the best if not the best actor in Byzantium. I would of probably gave this move a score of 8 if it was not slow. Do not get me wrong, it was a bit slow but still got my attention and kept my interest.
