Zodiac Review

A San Francisco cartoonist becomes an amateur detective obsessed with tracking down the Zodiac killer.

Zodiac (2007) is an American mystery crime horror movie that was filmed in various parts of California. It is based on Robert Graysmith‘s non-fiction book, The Zodiac. Zodiac is about the real-life unidentified Zodiac serial killer who committed murders in the late 1960s and early 1970s. During December 1968 through October 1969, the Zodiac did his murders in Benicia, Vallejo, Lake Berryessa, and San Francisco, California. The Zodiac named himself Zodiac after sending many letters to the Bay Area press. Four of those letters were cryptograms, and only one of those letters was the solver. There have been many suspects, and the case is still open in different counties in California. The Zodiac contains sexual references, bad language, violence, intense dark moments, suspense and thrills.

Zodiac movie is about a massive hunt for a serial killer whose identity is still a mystery. The unknown serial killer is called the Zodiac. The Zodiac kept his killing around the San Francisco Bay area from the late 1960s to early 1970s. He would give police hints by giving them clothing stained with blood and letters. This movie follows the Zodiac real life killings very closely, so I advise reading the biography of the Zodiac. This movie is the closest so far that you will get to the Zodiac’s life. The San Francisco Chronicle newspaper could not figure out the cryptograms, so they published it in the newspaper. One of the cryptograms was deciphered by a husband and wife in the area.

Director David Fincher (Se7en (1995), The Social Network (2010), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)) did an excellent job executing this movie to be precise on the actual events. David did a great job tying all the different aspects of the movie to make it flow well. The actors did an amazing job with their parts. The CGI added a special bonus as the shots were beautiful. The recreations of the murders were just splendid. The creepiness in this movie stayed with me for a while. The movie is about 2/12 hour long, but it was worth it because there was no plot holes, and once again it was flawless. I recommend everyone to watch this movie because it has certain lessons about life that is beneficial to stay safe. Imagine a serial killer that killed so many people could still be at large but then again he would be too old to be a serial killer again.
