[REC] 4: Apocalypse Review

An ill-fated television reporter is rescued and sent on a voyage across the ocean, but she is followed by the deadly virus that has plagued her and numerous others.

[REC] 4: Apocalypse (2014) is a Spanish thriller horror movie that is the fourth and final installment of the [REC] franchise. The film was an okay watch that did not excite me or waste my time. Director and co-writer Director Jaume Balaguero ([Rec] (2007), [Rec] 2 (2009), Fragile (2005)) failed at executing this movie because he has the potential to make any movie script into something worth watching twice. The film contains violence, bad language, gore, some horror and a few intense scenes, but nothing to jump out of your seat for.

[REC] 4: Apocalypse continues straight from second film events. [REC] 4: Apocalypse starts with Angela Vidal (Manuela Velasco - [Rec] (2007), Law of Desire (1987), [Rec] 2 (2009), Velvet (2013)) being rescued by GEO’s. It was a pretty intense beginning scene seeing the infected people/tenants attacking the GEO’s. Needless to say, the GEO’s killed the infected tenants along with any of the soldiers that got infected leaving only two strong soldiers uninfected. Soldier Guzman (Paco Manzanedo - Gente de fiesta (2012), World Flowers from Another World (1999), Créeme, estoy muerto (1998)) heard Angela and rescues her. Angela wakes up in a room where tests are being run on her by Doctor Ginard (Paco Obregón - Mi querido Klikowsky (2005), Wounded (2013), Torapia (2004)), to makes matters worse, she does not remember anything. Angela tries to escape and discovers that she is on a boat, and there is nowhere to escape to. The communication to anyone that is not on the boat is cut off from them, so it is just them.

Nick (Ismael Fritschi) tries to help Angela secretly by getting his hands on a tape of her and showing it to her. Angela slowly begins to remember previous events. After a few events, an infected monkey attacks the cook and is killed but the food has blood all over it. The cook is unresponsive when a soldier enters the kitchen, so the soldier did a good deed by taking the food to the cafeteria to be served to all. Lucas (Críspulo Cabezas - Barrio (1998), Nobody Knows Anybody (1999), Los perros de Pavlov (2003), Linko (2014)) and an elderly woman went to the kitchen to get something else to eat and discovered the cook is infected. With half of the ship being infected, hope is disappearing. Will they find an antidote for the mass infection? Will Angela help them in this challenge? The movie bites but does not quite meet my expectations.

[REC] 4: Apocalypse (2014) might be the right movie for most horror fans, but it is one movie that I will not see again. It does contain thrills but not much. The actors all did a fantastic job with their parts. The sets were great, and the music was on par but the movie needed more umph to it.
