Clown Review

Synopsis:

A loving father finds a clown suit for his son's birthday party, only to realize that it is not a suit at all.

Clown (2014) is an American drama horror movie that is 100 minutes long and was filmed in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and New York City, New York, USA. Jon Watts (Cop Car (2015), Eugene! (2012), Clay Pride: Being Clay in America (2001)) did an incredible job directing his second full-length movie. Jon Watts also wrote the screenplay for Clown, which he has little experience but was able to execute it wonderfully. This movie was on the top of my horror movie list to see, and I was overjoyed when I saw it because it was everything I expected it to be. It had the right amount of suspense, jump scares, violence, sitting on the edge of your seat moments and thrills.

Clown is about real estate Kent (Andy Powers - In Her Shoes (2005), Untitled: A Love Story (2007), Oz (1997)) whose life changed drastically after his son’s birthday party. He hired a clown to entertain the kids at his son Jack’s (Christian Distefano - Creative Galaxy (2013), Finding Christmas (2013), PAW Patrol (2013), Cut Bank (2014)) birthday party. The clown canceled at the last minute because he accidently went to the wrong party. Kent took it upon himself to dress up like a clown with an old costume he found in an attic at one of the homes he has for sale. He entertained the kids at the party and accidently fell asleep with the costume only to wake up in the morning being unable to take it off. His wife soon realizes that her husband is changing by having an enormous appetite amongst other things and tries to help him.

Kent tracked down Karlsson (Peter Stormare - Fargo (1996), 22 Jump Street (2014), The Big Lebowski (1998), Armageddon (1998)) who is the previous owner of the costume and underwent the same faith as Kent. Karlsson tries to behead Kent because he knows the history of the costume. The clown costume is the hair and skin of a Northern European ancient demon that devours five children a year. Watch this movie to see if Kent will devours children as the ancient demon did or will he offer five children to the ancient demon so that he can be free from this curse? Karlsson received his brother’s help to sacrifice children that were terminally ill to save himself but what will Kent do?

This movie kept me on my toes from the beginning to the ending, and I appreciated it. I recommend all horror fans to watch this movie as soon as possible because it is a real horror treat. The acting was realistic and could not have been any better. The cinematography, lighting effects, sound, sets, and case were all awesome. There were minor plot holes, and that is why I gave it a score of an nine.
