Synopsis:A mysterious virus hits an isolated elementary school, transforming the kids into a feral swarm of mass savages. An unlikely hero must lead a motley band of teachers in the fight of their lives.
Cooties (2014) is an American action comedy horror movie that is 96 minutes long and was filmed in Los Angeles, California, USA and Arcadia, California, USA. First-time directors Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion did an awesome job executing Cooties. The trailer was awesomely done, and I watched it three times because I have never seen a movie/trailer like that. Warning: This movie is not for everyone especially individuals who do not like to see kids being killed/murdered in movies. I think this movie was aimed towards viewers with an open mind which can see a kid getting hit by a fire extinguisher and stay calm to watch the rest of the movie.
Cooties is about elementary school kids turning into little flesh eating monsters (zombies) after being infected with a virus (zombie virus). The teachers are unaffected and must fight to save their lives. Clint (Elijah Wood - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), Green Street Hooligans (2005), The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)) is a failed horror writer in New York. He has no other choice but to move back home and live with his mother in Midwestern Mayberry of Fort Chicken. I was shocked to see the real reason he was in NY - you will have to wait toward the ending of the movie to see why. He is now working as a substitute teacher at a school he once attended. He does not like his job as the kids are rude as can be and did I mention, addicted to their cell phones.
The chicken nuggets scene in the beginning credits was done beautifully. The tainted chicken nuggets were packaged from a factory and sent to the school lunchroom to be fed to the innocent kids. The transformation of the kids was a little emotional for me although I was open minded about watching the movie. I have kids, and it made me think about their school lunch. Okay, back to the movie, the kids can transfer the virus simply by scratching another student/individual or biting them. The kicker is that the virus has no effect on adults and kids over the age of thirteen because they have had their shots/passed puberty. Clint and a group of teachers have to fend off the kids physically if they want to live.
The movie was an okay watch overall, but it is not something that I would recommend to horror fans and is not something I would see again. The movie had laughs here and there but it did not have enough of it. I felt as though the first part of the movie was fantastic and got me reeled in, but then I was disappointed in the second part and thrilled with the ending. I had high expectations for this movie from viewing the trailer but after viewing the entire movie - the few good parts that were in the movie was put in the trailer.
