Drive Angry Review
Synopsis:A vengeful father escapes from hell and chases after the men who killed his daughter and kidnapped his granddaughter.
Drive Angry (2011) is an American supernatural action movie that is filled with fantasy, comedy and is worth seeing in 3D. Director and co-writer Patrick Lussier (Scream (1996), Scream 2 (1997), Dracula 2000 (2000)) did an incredible job executing this thriller movie. I enjoyed over and over again and did not get tired of it. There is no horror in this film so horror fans might be disappointed, but it does deal with Satan and hell. I am a Nicolas Cage fan, and this was one of his best movies. He went through hell to save his granddaughter on Earth so that she does not meet the same faith as him or his daughter and husband. I gave this movie an eight because all of the sexual content and nudity was not needed, it was an overload. The movie contains extreme violence, intense bad language, graphic images, nudity, sexual content and awesome action scenes. The film was shot in several locations in Louisiana.
Drive Angry revolves around John Milton (Nicolas Cage - Leaving Las Vegas (1995), National Treasure (2004), Moonstruck (1987), Kick-Ass (2010)) trying to save his granddaughter. John died ten years prior to everything that takes place in the movie. He escaped from Hell to save his granddaughter and kill cult leader Jonah King, who murdered John’s daughter and her husband. It was sad when John said Hell is a terrible place, and he suffered a lot, but it does not measure to suffering he had when he was forced to watch a video feed of his daughter being murdered. Jonah (Billy Burke - Twilight (2008), The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010)) stole John’s granddaughter after killing her parents. Jonah plans on sacrificing John’s granddaughter in a Satanist ritual to unleash Hell over Earth and to become immortal. It was funny to see the Accountant (William Fichtner - The Dark Knight (2008), Black Hawk Down (2001), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014), The Lone Ranger (2013)) saying that Satan does not like Satanists and denies Jonah. I was like haha, he deserves that.
After a few events, John arrives at an abandoned prison in Louisiana with Piper (Amber Heard - Zombieland (2009), Drive Angry (2011), Never Back Down (2008), Pineapple Express (2008)) who is a waitress that he rescued from her abusive boyfriend. The Accountant is scouring Earth for John and his rifle that John stole. The Accountant finally catches up to John and John catches up tp Jonah. I love the showdown between the group and I was emotionally attached to the characters. I saw this movie more than once, and I will see it again. It is great to see this film more than once without 3D, but it was a treat to see it in 3D. I hope for it to be released in theaters again for a day in 3D and also Avatar 3D.
