Deep Dark Review

Synopsis:

A failed sculptor discovers a strange, talking hole in the wall. It has the power to fulfill his wildest dreams...and become his worst nightmare.

Deep Dark (2015) is an American fantasy horror movie that was filmed in Portland, Oregon, USA,┬áMark Woolley Gallery, Portland, Oregon, USA, People’s Art of Portland Gallery, Portland, Oregon, USA and Santa Barbara, California, USA. Writer, actor (Hermann’s Father), producer and director Michael Medaglia (Kitty (2010), The Ratsnitch Angel (2006), The Devil’s Muse (2007)) did a good job executing this filming considering that he does not have much experience in the industry. It is a twisted horror comedy with a cheeky tagline and a moral that should be thought of when wishing for something.

Hermann (Sean McGrath - Twilight (2008), The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), The Burning Plain (2008)) is a failed sculptor that is not very creative and has perseverance. He creates artwork that are made in hanging mobiles that are put above baby cribs for them to watch. Hermann was humiliated while displaying one of his pieces because the suspension broke and well you know what happens next. He was so distraught that he started to doubt his career choice and decides to follow a few pieces of advice to move to a new apartment. Oh little behold, Hermann discovers the mouse size door on his wall and decides to open the door. A tube with writing was behind the door, and now Hermann is trying to figure out if he is sane or is he really going crazy. The note was not the only thing that popped out of the wall; pods were also lodged out. After a few events, his masterpiece is selling for top dollar, and he could not be happier as everything is falling into place. Forgot to mention, the creature that he discovered in his wall can make his dreams come true but remember, everything too good to be true comes at a price. The creature wants for Hermann to spend time with it as payment for Hermann succeeding in life. Things start going wrong as people began to die. The moral of this story is to be careful what you wish for!!!

Overall, I enjoyed watching this movie but will not see it again because it is not my cup of tea. The pacing was ok as well as the sets and sound. Everything about this movie was average including the actors performances, but I did not enjoy the moral of the story. The special effects could have been excellent, but I think the budget restriction was the cause of it not being excellent. My co-watchers enjoyed Deep Dark more than I do, needless to say, everyone have a different liking and preference so do not hesitate to see this movie because you might find it to be something worthwhile.
