Almost Mercy Review

Jackson and Emily aren't like the other kids. Two burgeoning sociopaths on the brink of total meltdown. Ticking time bombs seeking revenge. Who will unravel first?

Almost Mercy (2015) is an American horror film that contains revenge, animal torture, school shooting, female murderer, cop killer, suicide by pills, the murder of a child molester, pedophile priest, and child abuse. A few other things the movie contains are attempted suicide, a man murdering his family, infidelity, child molestation, raped while drugged, gang rape, drug use, bullying, and paraplegic. I love the moral of the film and the backstory about Mercy Brown, which clearly states that monsters can walk amongst us and do not have to have claws or fangs, they can be anyone. I was deeply moved by the scene where villagers were trying to cure a girl of vampirism. The film addresses a few intense social issues that takes place today in our world and tells us that we should not always be scared of the supernatural world but instead of what is around us.

Director and co-writer Tom DeNucci (Self Storage (2013), Army of the Damned (2013), Burn the Saint) executed Almost Mercy in a powerful way that shows his dedication. This was by far the most entertaining revenge-thriller that I have seen in a long time and is Tom’s best work by far that he has done. The voiceover did justice to the movie as it has what held Almost Mercy together and made the scenes, even more, powerful. Viewers might like to know that Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder made special guest appearances in Almost Mercy. Bill plays a pastor and Kane has the role as a gym coach in high school.

Almost Mercy tells the story of Emily (Danielle Guldin - Sensory Perception (2015), Limitless (2011), The Weekend (2016)) and Jackson in South Greenwich, Rhode Island. Emily and Jackson (Jesse Dufault - Selling Out: The Ballad of Dack Durant (2014), The Sins of Dracula (2014), Dark Light of Day) started their friendship at a very young age. Jackson’s life did not take long to spiral out of control. The duo’s friendship was put to the test when they became victims of a toxic environment - will they survive or walk a thin line? Danielle Guldin gave one of the best performances of her roles and it mainly because of her acting skills, charm, and her beauty that just reels you in. Almost Mercy is the type of film that will keep on replaying in your head long after you finish seeing it. It will keep you thinking about several things and about how our world is not so normal.

I gave this movie an eight because it was entertaining as well as an eye opener meaning that it will make people more aware of what is taking place and how our world can suddenly change. The actors overall did an outstanding job with their performance. All of the departments did a top notch job with their respective jobs. Watch Almost Mercy as soon as possible.
