Found Footage 3D Review
Synopsis:A group of filmmakers sets out to make the first 3D found footage horror movie, but find themselves IN a found footage horror movie when the evil entity from their film escapes into their behind-the-scenes footage.
Found Footage 3D (2016) is a 1h 48-min American 3D found footage horror film that is the first found footage horror movie to be shot natively in 3D. The film took about a month to be shot starting from May 26, 2014, in Gonzales, Texas and finishing in mid-June 2014 adding filming locations Austin, Texas, USA and Dale, Texas, USA. First-time full-length director, editor, supervising sound editor, producer, and writer Steven DeGennaro surprised me because I did not believe a newcomer to directing movies can achieve a great movie while taking on so many different roles. I will keep my eyes open for more movies from this astounding upcoming director.
Found Footage 3D revolves around a group of filmmakers heading to Texas to shot the first 3D found footage movie ever, yep that is what is going on here! The movie gets interesting as the group finds themselves in danger and part of the found footage movie they are shooting as they do whatever it takes to save their dear precious lives. What have they done as the evil from their found footage movie starts haunting them? I admire all of the hard work Steven DeGennaro put into this film as it is a cliche but does justice to horror films.
Derek (Carter Roy - Me + U (2012-2013), White Face (2001), Lovers Lane (2000), Choose (2011)) is the actor, writer, and producer who decides to make a 3D found footage movies and persuaded his friends to tag along. His idea of filming in an isolated/secluded area was not too bright but what is a horror movie without a bunch of people being away from everything/everyone? Derek wants to make the 3D movie because he thinks that 3D movies make more money than 2D movies and does not pay much attention to the plot and characters. His friend Andrew (Tom Saporito - Best Day Ever (2014), Offloading for Mrs. Schwartz (2011), Spermicide (2014)) who is the director and is eager to know why in the world would a couple have 3D cameras while vacationing in the woods. I have not heard of 3D security cameras until this movie.
The movie they are filming is about a couple trying to save their relationship by being away from everything and everyone. Derek plays the husband, and his ex, Amy (Alena von Stroheim - Hacker’s Game (2015), The Activist (2014), The Application Cafe (2012)) plays the wife. Derek’s brother Mark (Chris O’Brien - Rosewood (2015), Classic Alice (2014-2016), Tenured (2015)) is in charge of documenting everything. Lily (Jessica Perrin - A Song for Danny (2015), Givertaker (2016)) is his PA. Carl (Scott Allen Perry - NCIS: New Orleans (2015), Zoo (2015), Side Effects (2002)) is in charge of the sound and is the first one to discover that their cabin is actually haunted.
The first act was marvelous and kept me on my toes, and I am just thinking, why are these kids not listening to the stranger who warned them not to go into the cabin. I did not like that the pace slowed down because I prefer a steady pace. With that said, the characters were all interesting, and all of the actors did a perfect job portraying their characters. Found Footage 3D was sufficiently entertaining although it had some missteps.
