Best Vampire TV Series & TV Shows of All Time
Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1997 - 2003)
Buffy The Vampire Slayer was one of the first vampire TV series that I was exposed to and it was kid friendly, the first few seasons. Sarah Michelle Gellar starred as the iconic Buffy. Buffy fought vampires, demons, witches and just about every bad idea that came into the writers minds. Although the series did take a few dips, it was overall one of the best vampire TV series ever.
Dark Shadows (1966 - 1971)
Dark Shadows was a pioneer in horror TV bringing vampires to the small screen for the first time. This black and white classic played out more like a soap and featured ghosts and other paranormal phenomena.
The Vampire Diaries (2009 - )
The Vampire Diaries put the CW network on the map for teen vampire lovers and started as a romance focus. The series has thus amped up the action while still having strong romantic undertones.
The Originals (2013 - )
The Originals is the second stab at the vampire world for the CW network and builds on the initial momentum of The Vampire Diaries. The Originals features vampires, witches and werewolves with additional paranormal goodies. This is a household favorite for my family mind you the occasional fast-forward love scenes.
The Strain (2014 - )
FX’s The Strain denounces the romantic vampire and brings the vampire back to the scary world. The vampires in this TV series are thirsty, ugly looking monsters that want blood. Guillermo del Toro did a fantastic job with the special effects and story, cannot wait for season 2 of The Strain to air.
True Blood (2008 - 2014)
HBO’s True Blood delivered a great crazy story that did not take itself too seriously and that was what a lot of horror fans needed. Sookie Stackhouse and the entire cast did great even though some of the seasons fell a little short and the last season was bad, the overall True Blood experience was great.
Angel (1999 - 2004)
I remember not liking the first Angel season but continued into the second season where the seasons became better each and every year. I thought the last few episodes in the Angel series needed more but I was overall happy throughout the entire series.
Being Human (UK) (2008- 2013)
Being Human was so good that Syfy made a US version. Loved by many, check it out when you get a chance.
Penny Dreadful (2014 - )
Showtime’s Penny Dreadful mixed a central story around vampires but also includes many classic monsters from the Victorian Era. The first season had a lot of backstory and character development but I know that the second season will rock. The vampires in the series are also monstrous creatures that emit fear at the very sight of them, good job Showtime.
