Director Nikolaj Arcel‘s The Dark Tower (2017) release date has shifted from January 13, 2017, to February 17, 2016. This film will be the first film adaptation of Stephen King‘s epic The Dark Tower series comprised of eight books from Sony Pictures. Filming will start in about seven weeks in South Africa. Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey are confirmed to play Roland of Gilead (aka The Last Gunslinger) and The Man in Black.
Arcel will direct from a screenplay that has been written by himself, Anders Thomas Jensen, Akiva Goldsman, and Jeff Pinkner (the lattermost two penned a previous draft). Producing the project are Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Goldsman’s Weed Road company, and Imagine Entertainment’s Erica Huggins, with Pinkner serving as executive producer.

Synopsis: The Gunslinger, Roland Deschain, roams an Old West-like landscape where "the world has moved on" in pursuit of the man in black. Also searching for the fabled Dark Tower, in the hopes that reaching it will preserve his dying world.
