Killing Your Boss Review

Killing Your Boss was a great horror serial killer read. The author, James DeSantis did a marvelous job with this short story that had many twists in it. I like how the author describes each character on their own page. James was very descriptive with his writing to the point where the reader can visualize what their reading which is great. I like his writing style and will read more of his short stories in the future. It was an easy, quick and enjoyable read over a cup of tea.

Ben and Ron has been friends throughout their school years and now making it to over 14 years of friendship/brotherhood. They both work in a convenience store named E-Mart and they love each other like brothers. Ben is a shy guy who loves video games, committed to doing community service twice a week, tries his best to keep Ron out of trouble and thinks about his future. He is in love with Alisha and wants to get with her but his best friend is dating and living with her for a few months now. Ron is crude, does not care what people say about him and is a troublemaker who gets Ben involved in trouble on numerous occasions. Ron is insecure about Alisha and he dislikes when she is texting on the her phone because he feels that she will leave him for someone else. Ron’s girlfriend Alisha has a hot body that every guy wants. Ben seems to be extremely obsessed with Alisha and gets furious when Ron kisses her at the E-Mart where she also works.

Ron introduces the topic about killing their boss, Kurt on the very first page of this book which is new for me. Usually I will have to read a little more into the book to know who wants to kill who and why. This story reads like a real life story that can happen to very determined people. Ron persuades Ben and Alisha to accompany him and help with Kurt’s murder during their work day. Alisha and Ben thought that Ron is just going to put the scares in Kurt and not actually kill him like planned. On that same night, everyone’s life will change forever including Kurt and some true identities will be revealed. Kurt is not the average boss that everyone makes him out to be.

The story got interesting on page thirteen when the scenario changed from Ron, Ben and Alisha being the hunters to becoming the victims. Kurt is one sick old guy and it was just awful how he punished Ron on page 17. The torture methods from this point on in the story was very sick and made me wince quite a bit. There is one killer in the ending that I did not see coming or suspected at all. I was amazed and my expression was “wow”.

Texan Tooth Man got the ending he deserved after killing over 29 people.
