Alex began acting at the tender age of 8 for Swedish television until age 16. At 16, Alex decided that he longer was interested in acting as a career which his physician mother, My Skarsgård, had a great deal of influence in.
Alex joined the military service where he contemplated his future then after some time moved to New York, USA to study theatre at Marymount Manhattan College. Alex returned to Sweden as the result of a love interest but that was short lived. He then starred in many Swedish productions before visiting Los Angeles, California, USA. This visit landed him in Ben Stiller's Zoolander (2001).
After much bouncing around between Swedish productions and the USA, Alex settled in on HBO's True Blood TV series. Since then Alex landed great roles on the remake of Straw Dogs (2011), Battleship (2012) and the Giver (2014).
