Nikki Reed (Nicole Houston "Nikki" Reed) is an American film and TV actress, screenwriter, singer-songwriter and model. She was born on May 17, 1988 in West Los Angeles, California, USA to Beautician mom Cheryl Houston and set designer Seth Reed. Her older brother name is Nathan August Reed, and he was born on November 23, 1986. Her mother raised her in Culver City, California after her parents divorced when she was two years old. Her mother raised her without a religion and later she was identified as Jewish. She is from Cherokee, Italian and Jewish descent. She was familiar with some of the Jewish tradition as she grew up around it, and her brother Nathan had a Bar Mitzvah. She moved out of her mother's house at the age of 14 in 2002 and lived in an apartment in the Los Angeles area by herself. She is 5' 4" (1.63 m) and is a vegetarian.
Nikki returned to Alexander Hamilton High School in Los Angeles to continue her education after the movie Thirteen (2003) which she played Evie Zamora was successful. She did not stay in school for long and dropped out one year later because of her mom. Nikki said that "mothers who were sneaking into the school at lunchtime to confront and harass her about the film" and that made her quit school. She did not stop pursuing her high school diploma that she earned through homeschooling. She has said in a lot of interviews that her life at home was “complicated.”
She is known for her role Rosalie Hale in The Twilight Saga (2008–2012), Thirteen (2003) which was directed by Catherine Hardwicke, Lords of Dogtown (2007) and Mini's First Time (2006). Nikki met director Catherine Hardwicke when she was dating her father and kept in touch with her. Nikki told Catherine that she was interested in acting, and Catherine invited her to work on a script with her after reading her journal. They turned Nikki’s journal into the script. They finished the script in six days for the film Thirteen. The producers had trouble casting a role in the script because it was an uncomfortable role for young actresses so they asked Nikki to play the role. She was recognized as a screenwriter and actress after the film debuted. She was on her road to stardom as The Ellen DeGeneres Show invited her. She was also invited to host numerous award shows, including the Young Hollywood Awards (2003), the Independent Spirit Awards Nomination Show (2004) and the West Independent Spirits Awards (2004).
Nikki met singer-songwriter Paul McDonald, who was a season 10 American Idol contestant on the red carpet at the premiere of Red Riding Hood in March 2011. There was sparks between the two of them and moved in together soon after. They got engaged on June 2011 and later married on October 16, 2011, in Malibu. Nikki recorded "Now That I've Found You" with her husband, Paul McDonald. The song debuted on November 15, 2011 on Ryan Seacrest's radio show. Nikki and Paul released their first EP, The Best Part, on October 29, 2012. Their song "All I've Ever Needed" is featured on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 soundtrack. The couple filmed the music video "Get The Girl Back" in January 2013 for their single which released in April 2013. Nikki and Paul made a public announcement on March 2014 that they were getting separated after living apart for six months. They said that they were separating because of "work obligations". Nikki filed for divorce in May 2014, and it was finalized as of January 2, 2015.
Nikki and The Vampire Diaries star, Ian Somerhalder had reportedly been dating since July 2014 and got engaged in January (2015).
