El Rey From Dusk Till Dawn Season 1 Review
From Dusk Till Dawn Season 1 is an action crime supernatural thriller TV series based on the original movie, but gives us more background details. It introduced us to the characters and showed us backstory. El Rey's "From Dusk Till Dawn" action-thriller-horror series was a great treat for me as you might have known, I am a huge vampire fan. For those of you who have not had a chance to see this TV series yet then you can watch all ten episodes on Blu-ray that includes special features or stream the entire first season on Netflix Instant Streaming now.
The series is mostly based on the Gecko Brothers making their way to/across the Mexican border. The Gecko Brothers consist of Richie Gecko (Zane Holtz - The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), Holes (2003), Vampires Suck (2010), Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010)) and Seth Gecko (D.J. Cotrona - G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013), Dear John (2010), Venom (2005), Windfall (2006)) who is the older brother. Seth is the leader who is looking forward to claiming the 30 million dollar bond he and his brother has all to himself. Richie is cold hearted in this series and is involved in a lot of violence. He is unpredictable with all the hallucinations he has and appears to be losing his mind. The series could have been a hit with just the Gecko Brothers, but they put a spin on it and included a vampiric cult.
We are also introduced to the family, The Fullers. Professor Aiden Tanner (Jake Busey - Starship Troopers (1997), Enemy of the State (1998), Identity (2003), The Frighteners (1996)) is a full-fledged sexaholic ranger who is out for revenge. Freddie Gonzalez (Jesse Garcia - The Avengers (2012), Good Dick (2008), Under the Same Moon (2007), The Comebacks (2007)) is trailing the Gecko Brothers for revenge of his dead partner. There is also Carlos (Wilmer Valderrama - That '70s Show (1998), Fast Food Nation (2006), Handy Manny (2006), Unaccompanied Minors (2006)) who is the drug leader that is always planning against Santanico Pandemonium (Eiza Gonzalez). Freddie is out to get the Gecko brothers and soon encounters them leading to a shootout. Chief ranger Earl McGraw (Don Johnson - Miami Vice (1984), Nash Bridges (1996), Django Unchained (2012), The Other Woman (2014)) was caught in the crossfire and lost his life. In all the chaos with the exchanging of gun shots, Richie receives a bullet in/through his hand. Jacob Fuller (Robert Patrick - Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Walk the Line (2005), The Unit (2006), Bridge to Terabithia (2007)) is a retired minister who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. He and his two children are hijacked by the Gecko Brothers. The brothers used the Fuller's RV as their getaway vehicle.
After a few events, the catacombs under the nightclub are seen, and you guessed it - more action. Like most TV series, we see excellent characters making their appearance and leaving. The actors did a fantastic job re-enacting the characters. It was so believable. The series was what I wanted all along, and I am craving more. Do yourselves a favor if you have not already and get this on Blu-ray because it makes a beautiful entertainment piece for guests. The sets were astonishing with some great sceneries. The ending of each episode leaves you yearning for more.
