Focus World, owned and operated by Focus Features, has set a domestic theatrical release date for writer/director Julia Ducournau"s award-winning psychological horror thriller Raw.

Raw will open in select cities on Friday, March 10th, 2017; following the movie"s theatrical run, the title will be on digital platforms months later, in the summer. Earlier this month, the movie won the Sutherland Award for Best First Feature at the BFI London Film Festival. The prize follows other accolades for Raw from film festivals around the world, where it has proved to be a fan and industry favorite. Raw won the Best Director award at Fantastic Fest"s "Next Wave" competition; the Golden Octopus Award and the Audience Award at the Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival; and three prizes at the Sitges-Catalonian International Film Festival including the Citizen Kane Award for Best Up-and-Coming Director, the M?li?s d"Argent Award for Best Feature-Length European Film, and the Carnet Jove Jury Award for Best Feature-Length Film.

The Petit Film/Rouge International/FraKas Productions film world-premiered at the (2016) Cannes International Film Festival in the International Critics" Week section, where it won the FIPRESCI Prize. Produced by Petit Film"s Jean des For?ts, the French-language Raw stars Garance Marillier and is the debut feature from Ms. Ducournau.

Ms. Marillier portrays the teenaged Justine, who commences her studies at veterinary school to follow in her family members" footsteps. Raised as a vegetarian, Justine is pressured at school to try meat for the first time. Once she does, she plumbs both the depths of her own soul and tests the limits of her darkest cravings.

Focus World curates exciting works from first-time and rising filmmakers for the digital age while also preserving the theatrical release component, allowing audiences to choose how they will watch a new movie. Its slate encompasses both narrative and nonfiction features, and both English-language and foreign-language films. New in theaters this month from Focus World is Ti West"s In a Valley of Violence, the revenge Western starring Ethan Hawke and John Travolta.

Raw Plot Synopsis:

Justine is a first-year veterinary student. Her elder sister is studying the same course at the university. Justine was raised a strict vegetarian but, as part of the hazing rituals, is forced to eat meat. Initially this has adverse effects but she soon develops a craving for meat...particularly human flesh.
