Once Bitten Info
Once Bitten Review
Synopsis:A vampire Countess needs to drink the blood of a virgin in order to keep her eternal beauty. It seems that all is hopeless, until she bumps into Mark Kendall.
Once Bitten (1985) is a 1h 34-min PG-13 American horror comedy had gags, crude and sexual content, nudity, bad language, suspense, vampires and high school students. Director Howard Storm (Mork & Mindy (1978-1981), Valerie’s Family: The Hogans (1986-1989), Down to Earth (1985)) did an okay job executing this sex filled vampire movie. Once Bitten is a cheesy cringe-worthy 1980s movie that was not a great film, but there was still moments of greatness in it that made it into an entertaining watch that was fun to sit through.
Once Bitten revolves around naive teenager Mark Kendall (Jim Carrey - The Truman Show (1998), Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), Dumb & Dumber (1994)) trying to lose his virginity while a vampire wants his virgin blood. Mark’s girlfriend Robin (Karen Kopins - Creator (1985), Jake Speed (1986), Troop Beverly Hills (1989)) denies his request, so his friends Jamie and Russ takes him to Hollywood. Jamie (Thomas Ballatore - Timmy’s Wish (2002), Detonator (1998), Fatal Games (1984)) and Russ hopes that there is a woman in Hollywood that will help Mark. Mark met Countess (Lauren Hutton - Lauren Hutton and… (1995-1996), American Gigolo (1980), The Joneses (2009)) who is a vampire looking for a virgin’s blood. Countess and her assistant Sebastian (Cleavon Little - Blazing Saddles (1974), Another World (1964), Vanishing Point (1971), The New Temperatures Rising Show (1972-1974)) have been looking for virgin for centuries. Countess has to drink the blood of a virgin male three times to stay youthful. Will Robin help Mark lose his virginity so that Countess does not take him from her?
Why did the dance scene need to get extremely sexual, yes it involves stripping but it did not need to be extreme. Mark’s story began and ended with sexual matters - the movie never strays from sexual content. Jim Carrey made his big acting debut in Once Bitten by having his first starring role which is not as funny as his later movies, but that does not mean that he did not shine in this film because he did. Once Bitten is a film that I will not see again but was an okay watch while it lasted.
