Never Cry Werewolf Review
Synopsis:Jared Martin moves next door to the Hansetts, along with his hot motorcycle and eerie, ill-tempered dog...
Never Cry Werewolf (2008) is a Canadian English TV horror movie that had a cheesy cover image, and I did not expect much from it. I am so happy that I did not get my hopes up for this movie because it was an okay watch but not something I would watch again. Director Brenton Spencer (Stargate: Atlantis (2004), Crowsnest (2012), Blown Away (1993)) failed at executing this movie. It was horrible, and I only gave it a four because it has some suspense and frights to it. The film contains minor sexual language/reference, some violence but not blood, not much frightening scenes and bad language.
Loren (Nina Dobrev - The Vampire Diaries (2009), The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), Let’s Be Cops (2014), Chloe (2009)) and her family greet their new neighbor, Jared (Peter Stebbings) and his dog. Jared is a handsome fella, and 16-year-old Loren has uneasy feelings about their new mysterious neighbor. Loren became more suspicious of Jared after a few local began disappearing one by one from their town. Jared (Peter Stebbings - K-19: The Widowmaker (2002), Immortals (2011), The Listener (2009), Defendor (2009)) is also closely keeping an eye on Loren, and she does not know it. The movie got somewhat interesting after I learned that Loren resembles Jared’s deceased wife, and he is now very protective of her. He bit Loren’s friend Angie who is close to Loren - Jared is claiming his territory. Redd Tucker (Kevin Sorbo - Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1995), Andromeda (2000), God’s Not Dead (2014), Meet the Spartans (2008)) is a personnel on a local TV hunting show. Redd teams up with a delivery boy and Loren to investigate what takes place on a full-moon with an immortal creature that has an insatiable bloodlust. What will Loren do when she has a choice to trade her life for her brother’s life who is locked in a freezer by Jared.
The movie is not really that bad; it is just sad that it appears to be a remake of Fright Night (1985). Nina Dobrev and Peter Stebbings did an excellent job with their performances. I enjoyed the movie but it is a cliche in many ways, and I cannot overlook that because the film did not have enough to stand out from the rest. I would not recommend horror fans and werewolf fans to see this movie, Fright Night was way better. The makeup department could have done a better job as well as the cinematographer. The sound was okay, and everything else about the movie was below average.
