Zombieland Plot Synopsis:Searching for family. In the early twenty-first century, zombies have taken over America. A shy and inexperienced college student in Texas has survived by following his 30 rules: such as "look in the back seat," "double-tap," "avoid public restrooms." He decides to travel to Ohio to see if his parents are alive. He gets a ride with a boisterous zombie-hating good-old boy headed for Florida, and soon they confront a young woman whose sister has been bitten by a zombie and wants to be put out of her misery. The sisters were headed to an LA amusement park they've heard is zombie free. Can the kid from Ohio get to his family? And what about rule thirty one?
Zombieland (2009) Review
Zombieland (2009) is a 1h 28-min American zombie comedy adventure-horror movie that has an estimated budget of $23.6 million and grossed over $102.4 million at the box office. Director Ruben Fleischer (Gangster Squad (2013), 30 Minutes or Less (2011), Rob & Big (2006-2008)) executed this zombie film nicely. The movie contains comedy relief, sexual content, violence, zombies, tension, suspense and bad language. The film was beautifully shot on Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA; Los Angeles, California, USA and about 12 location in Georgia, USA.
Zombieland revolves around Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg - The Social Network (2010), Now You See Me (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)) who is dealing with different situations in the zombie apocalypse while trying to get to his family. Columbus has maintained to stay alive because of his zombie rules/guidelines that he follows with the zombies or the new world environment he is living in. Columbus has a few choices as the zombie roam around, and his choices are that he can either play video games all day at home or go on an adventure and see the world. His decision soon diminished as his neighbor dropped by and contaminated his place, so he sets out to find his family.
He met Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson - No Country for Old Men (2007), Cheers (1985-1993), Now You See Me (2013)) who is a professional survivalist who loves Twinkies; I was a Twinkie fan myself in my teenage years. I adore the relationship that Columbus and Tallahassee have as it was full of energy and cleverness with a little of badass. They met Wichita (Emma Stone - The Help (2011), Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014), Easy A (2010), The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)) who has her survival techniques with a bodacious body. Wichita and her younger sister have managed to survive so far because they have not trusted anyone until they started to become fond of the guys and vice versa.
The group thinks that there is a sanctuary in an L.A. because they heard that there are no zombies there. Their voyage was not easy as it had its share of ups and down with the sisters leaving them behind amongst other stuff. All of the actors gave us good performances and comedy was provided at the right moments to ease the dark moments. We were never really told exactly where the zombie outbreak came from or how except from some guy. We were treated to a quick cameo from actor Bill Murray as the group finds their way to his home. Zombieland is an average zombie movie that was made to be watched without reading too much into it. It is the type of movie that you will watch once, or you will watch it very often and become a fan.
