Red: Werewolf Hunter (2010) Review
Sheldon Wilson directed werewolf movie Red: Werewolf Hunter (2010) has a runtime of 80 minutes. Felicia Day, Kavan Smith, and Stephen McHattie star in Red: Werewolf Hunter.
Red: Werewolf Hunter is a modern-day telling of Little Red Riding Hood focusing on her descendants. Felicia Day plays Virginia "Red" Sullivan who brings her fiance Nathan Kessler (Kavan Smith) back home to meet her family. Kessler gets bitten by a werewolf, and now, the werewolf hunter Sullivans are out to kill him before he gets out of control. "Red" now has to keep her finance safe until she can reverse the werewolf curse.
Virginia "Red" Sullivan (Felicia Day - The Guild web series) is the leader of a group of werewolf hunters. The hunters safeguard the old pact between humans and the werewolves . This movie all goes crazy when a new breed of rogue werewolves start hunting humans. Gabriel (Stephen McHattie - Watchmen (2009)), the leader of the rogue werewolf group, breaks the sacred truce between hunters and wolves. Red must set out to kill Gabriel and his werewolves to save humanity from these deadly predator monsters. It is now up to Red to prevent a full-fledged werewolf takeover.
I would have liked if Kessler had a little more time to meet the family and establish that relationship a little more. Instead, Kessler is immediately mauled by werewolves, and there is no real transition between the family and him. We are shown the immediate dislike now that he is bitten.
Red and Kessler try to portray this sense of romance, but it does not come across very well. Syfy made some awful decisions in the werewolf transformations coupled with the action scenes being lackluster make the would be high points of this film stick out badly.
Red: Werewolf Hunter feels rushed and does not hit the action scenes well. Terrible CGI was also a factor along with poor pacing. Also, why did we need so many "gearing up" movie scenes?
