I Spit on Your Grave 2 Review

When Katie innocently accepts an offer to have new photos taken for her portfolio, the experience quickly turns into a nightmare of rape, torture and kidnapping. Now, she will have to find the strength to exact her brutal revenge.

Steven R. Monroe (MoniKa, Complacent, I Spit on Your Grave) is a well known director. My expectations for I Spit on Your Grave 2 was very high since Steven did an incredible job with the original movie. The movie trailer also contributed to my high expectations. Bottom line, the movie is not a scary movie that I thought it would be. It was full with a lot of suspense, nudity, tons of violence (testicle mutilation), gore factors, bad language, drugs, drinking, suspense and frightening scenes.

Jemma Dallender (Hollyoaks - TV Series, Taken: The Search for Sophie Parker - TV Movie, Community) did an amazing job with her role as Katie in I Spit on Your Grave 2. Jemma does not have that much experience as an actress but as I said, she pulled off her role as Katie like a pro. Although Katie did an amazing job acting, I could not connect with her character as I would connect with many other actors in other movies.

Katie is a young beautiful attractive girl who is looking for a break in the modeling business. She speaks to a Russian photographer she does not know and arrange to go for a photo shoot at his location in downtown which seems extremely cheap by the looks of it. Things went south after she met with photographer Ivan (Joe Absolom - Defining Fay, Thorne: Scaredycat, The Story of F***) because she was not planning on modeling nude/taking nude pictures. Ivan’s brother, Georgy (Yavor Baharov - Faith, Love and Whiskey, Tilt, Double Identity) grew a deadly attraction toward Katie before she ran out of the photo shoot. Georgy later shows up at Katie’s doorstep with some photographs taken before she found out about the nude scene.

Georgy eventually left her apartment but returns in the night while she was sleeping and started to film her while she was sleeping. She soon wakes up to find him in her room and freaks out which leads to a really violent fight/battle. Her boyfriend Jayson (Michael Dixon - Love Written in Blood, Red Tails, Who Lives Next Door, The Tree of Life) hears all the noise and soon intervenes which leads to him being stabbed and lying on the floor to watch his girlfriend Katie being raped. Katie was then smuggled out of the country to Bulgaria where she was sold and used for sexual pleasure. Katie eventually escapes and then the story picks up. She seeks revenge on all those that hurt her and she is determined to hurt all of them the way she was hurt.

I Spit on Your Grave 2 is one of those horror movies that will have different reactions from viewers. I feel it could of been better if it was executed to the potential it had. I gave this movie a 6 because it was a nice watch but you need a really strong stomach for it. Many male viewers will feel a certain sense of pain during a particular scene in this movie.
