Grabbers Plot Synopsis:

Police officer Lisa Nolan comes to Aran Island, Ireland, to take charge during a colleague's two-week holiday. Simultaneously, blood-thirsty, sea-dwelling aliens arrive at the quiet island to propagate. As dead whales wash up on shore and people start mysteriously disappearing, officers and a few locals slowly discover their peril along with one sure defense - high blood alcohol levels, which the aliens can't stomach. As a storm approaches, enabling hungry hatchlings access to the locals, an open bar kicks off a desperate bid for survival as inebriated police and friends stagger to remain cognizant long enough to thwart the alien invasion.

Grabbers (2012) Review

I really enjoy the work Director Jon Wright (Our Robot Overlords, Tormented, The Routine) with 2012 Irish British movie, Grabbers. Grabbers is different from the movies I have watched in the last few months. It is a thriller sci-fi horror movie with comedy, scare factors, suspense, love, drinking, bad language, confessions, creatures that grabs onto peoples face and much more. It was funny to see the other side of people when they are drunk and especially have to stay drunk in order to stay alive. I was kind of grossed out when they were dissecting the creature and to find out the creature was pregnant.

Grabbers (2012) is about the people in Ireland learning that they are being invaded by alien-like creatures that sucks the blood out of them. The creatures are then called Grabbers and soon after they discover that the Grabbers do not like humans that have alcohol in their body. The Grabbers only suck the blood out of humans that have water and blood in their body. Garda Ciaran O’Shea (Richard Coyle - Crossbones, Dream On, Life of Crime) calls for help from the mainland but there was no help anytime soon because there is an incoming storm . The storm/rain helped the large Grabbers to move more freely around the Irish island. O’Shea and Garda Lisa Nolan (Ruth Bradley - The Sea, Horizon, Big Thunder) decided to keep a party at the pub to keep the islanders safe because they are unaware of the dangers heading their way. Everyone decided to join the party when Tadhg Murphy (Louis Dempsey - 6 Bullets, Cloud Atlas, The Last Drop) who is the pub owner offers free drinks. While everyone is getting drunk and having fun, O’Shea stays sober in order to keep an eye out for the Grabbers.

Nolan confesses to O’Shea that she has feelings for him and in her drunken slumber tells everyone in the pub of the danger they face and then tries to reassure everyone that everything is fine. Everyone later went to the second floor of the pub after a few discussions while the baby Grabbers made their way to the first floor of the pub. Grabbers is kind of stupid funny but then captures your attention in a way that you want to see more to know what will happen next. I would recommend Grabbers because it is different and a great watch.
