Kiss of the Damned Review

The vampire Djuna resists the advances of Paolo, but soon gives in to their passion. When her trouble-making sister unexpectedly comes to visit, Djuna's love is threatened, and the whole vampire community becomes endangered.

Kiss of the Damned (2012) contains gore, strong sex scenes, nudity, violence, bad language, suspense and some jump scenes. I was shocked to learn that this movie was filmed in New York City and Connecticut. Kiss of the Damned is a romance horror thriller film about vampires and it is kind of on the gothic side. I am not familiar with write and director Xan Cassavetes (Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession, Dust) but I am going to see the other two movies she directed.

I love that there was several different types of music in this movie compared to other vampire movies. It contained rock, electronica and classical music which helped transition one scene to another smoothly. I also like the European feel the movie gives me unlike other vampire based movies. Kiss of the Damned did remind me of the Twilight Saga and that is because of some similarities. The good vampires in both movies fed off of animals for their blood intake, fights the urge to drink human blood, has flawless bodies, almost indestructible along with vampire and human falling in love with each other. Still comparing, the vampire tells the human that he/she is a vampire but that does not change the way the human feels about the vampire and eventually the human becomes a vampire.

Josephine de La Baume (If You Don’t, I Will, Listen Up Philip, Billy Bates) did an awesomely good job playing Djuna who has a body that drives guys insane. After seeing the trailer, I wanted to know why were the couple kissing through the little opening of the door and why the girl bit the guys tongue and made him bleed. After seeing the movie, my question was answered. It all started when screenwriter Paola (Milo Ventimiglia - Walter, Tell, Heat) had writers block and decided to visit a movie rental store where he met Djuna. He was enticed with her body/looks and asked her out. He tried to get close to Djuna and she kicked him out of her massive mansion with a lake side view. Paola was persistent and started to stalk her and one day she opened her door slightly with the guard chains still attach. They began kissing through the opening of the door and then she bites his tongue which lead him to leaving. He eventually returns and had one of a kind sex scene with Djuana. Djuna and Paola became a couple and everything was going good until Djuanas’ uncontrollable younger sister visits and trouble begins.

I like this movie a lot and I will watch this movie again. There was too many sex scenes in this movie but it is a great classic vampire movie overall.
