Contracted Review

After being drugged and raped at a party, a young woman contracts what she thinks is an STD; but, it's actually something much worse.

The horror thriller trailer was gut wrenching awful where it made me feel like to barf. Contracted (2013) seemed too grotesque for me but my curiosity got the best of me. I saw the movie and I was so right about the gross factor, I could not watch the terrifying gross parts of the movie and there was a lot of it. I could not also eat dinner that night. This is a must see for all the daredevils who like to see how much their stomach can handle from gut turning movies. Maybe this is a great movie to show teenagers because it is about a young girl who has unprotected sex with a stranger she met at a party and contracts the unimaginable to anyones imagination and no it is not your regular sexually transmitted disease (STD).

I would not recommend this movie to people with a weak heart, weak stomach, kids and anyone who does not like to see hard core gore factors. Contracted contains forced sextual content that cannot be seen but heard. Over the extreme gore factor where a female keeps on bleeding from her genitals but there is no nudity, just huge amounts of blood and blood clots are shown and also maggots falling out from the genital area. There is also a lesbian scene where one female vomits blood onto the other female mouth. There is no real visible nude scenes but a lot of sexually scenes are implied. There is not much violence in this movie and I think the most grotesque scene is when a girl bites out a piece of flesh from another girls neck, grabs an object and repeatedly smashes her face with it. To sum it up, it has extreme gore, little violence, little use of bad language and it is not really frightening nor jump out of your seat scary.

Najarra Townsend (Last Supper, Immoral Prodigy, Criminal) did an astounding job with her natural acting as Samantha. Samantha is a young girl who does not get along with her mother and has a troubled relationship with her partner. She was such a poise person at the beginning of the movie and then all she wanted was revenge in the end. I did not predict the ending the way it actually ended. I totally did not see that coming because there was no hint in the movie towards it.

The movie is about Samantha who contracts a severe ailment from a perfect stranger (a guy) on a one night stand while she was highly intoxicated and drugged. She then tries to keep it a secret from her mother and her lesbian lover while visiting her doctor. Her doctor disregards her concerns and told her to keep an eye on it. The whole story took place within about a weeks period. Her ailment starts progressing and is severely getting worse and showing on her outer body as well. So basically the disease is spread from one person to the next by kissing and sexual acts.

I like the movie somewhat because it gives viewers a message although it has a lot of loose ends. It is different and I think this movie would have been a hit if it had more consistency to it. A few inconsistencies I saw in the movie was at the beginning of the movie, you can see the corpse body breathing in the body bag. Later you see Alice’s vein pulsating when Riley found her in the bathtub and the last one I found is Nicki’s left eye is white when Sam visits her, her eye is red when she sees Alice later and then white again when she applies makeup a few minutes after that meeting Alice. There was a lot of unanswered questions as well.
