Black Water Plot Synopsis:

While on vacation on Northern Australia, Gracie, her husband Adam and her younger sister Lee decide to take the Blackwater Barry tour in the swamp for fishing. Their guide Jim uses a small motor boat and takes the tourist along the river to a remote spot. When they stop, they are attacked by a huge crocodile that capsizes their boat and immediately kills Jim. The three survivors climb a tree and when they realize that help would never come to rescue them, they decide to try to find a way out of their sheltered location. However, in the muddy water, their boat is flipped and the crocodile stalks the trio under the water.

Black Water (2007) Review

Black Water (2007) is an Australian action thriller horror movie that is not for the faint hearted horror fans. The movie was inspired by a true story in 2003 in the Australia’s Northern Territory where a crocodile attack happened. Directors and writers David Nerlich (Dark Sun (1998)) and Andrew Traucki (The Reef (2010), The ABCs of Death (2012), The Jungle (2013)) are new to the movie industry. They pulled off an incredibly wonderful masterpiece. They should team up often and bring us more scary drama horror movies. Black Water contains blood, crocodile amputating body parts, bad language, frightening scenes, intense scenes and thrills.

Black Water is about three family members going on a fishing trip that turn deadly. Grace (Diana Glenn - Satisfaction (2007), Oyster Farmer (2004), Somersault (2004)), her husband Adam (Andy Rodoreda - Cargo (2013), Saved (2009), The Tunnel Movie (2011)) and sister Lee (Maeve Dermody - Beautiful Kate (2009), Griff the Invisible (2010), Dangerous Remedy (2012)) are going fishing in the Mangrove swamps with the Blackwater Barry tour company. Lee convinces the girls that they should go see a crocodile exhibit - where the three of them learn that male crocodiles are extremely dangerous and can grow immensely huge. The next morning they went on their fishing trip with your guide Jim (Ben Oxenbould - Fatty Finn (1980), Hey Dad..! (1987), Comedy Inc. (2003)) who took a six-shot revolver with them on their expedition. Jim and the trio had no luck catching any fish in the usual tour spots. Jim told them they should go to the deeper swamp area because he believes they have bigger fishes there. Adam catches a fish as soon as they reach the deeper swamps which is far from the route they should be on.

Lee suspects that her sister Grace is pregnant after she refuses to drink alcohol at the bar. After some time and events the group is in the water because something big enough hit their boat hard enough to capsize it with them in it. The movie is intense from this point on as Adam realizes there are crocodiles in the water while trying to help Grace get to a tree for safety. Lee is stranded under the boat and tangled up in the ropes. Will she be able to free herself before the crocodiles get to her? Will someone rescue her? What happens to Jim? How long will Grace and Adam stay in the tree - there is no rescue team because no one knows that they are out in the deeper swamps. Who will eventually survive and who will die? How does Grace’s pregnancy that Adam is unaware of fit into this movie - watch and see.

I will watch this movie again and recommend it to all who love a good action drama thriller because it packs everything into one awesome movie. The set, actors, sceneries, screenplay, cinematography and lighting effects were all good. David Nerlich and Andrew Traucki, I am looking forward to seeing more movie from the both you. I was able to relate to the characters in this movie, so I felt as I was there with them rooting for them to be safe.
