Extraterrestrial Review

A group of friends on a weekend trip to a cabin in the woods find themselves terrorized by alien visitors.

Extraterrestrial (2014) is a Canadian science fiction horror movie that is also known as The Visitors (2014). Director Colin Minihan (Grave Encounters (2011), Theory of a Deadman: So Happy (2008), Grave Encounters 2 (2012)) did an exceptional job executing this movie but did not do an excellent job. The movie was such a cliche in that it happened once again in the middle of nowhere in a cabin and took bits of other movies. The ending where both of them ran out of the woods toward the people/noise they heard seems like it was ripped from [REC] 3: Genesis (2012). There were other parts of the movie as well, but it flowed well although I was like "really" and why did that happen. The Vicious Brothers wrote this movie and also was the editor. The movie contains sexual content, bad language, animal mutilation, gore, violence, some intense scenes and eerie background music/sounds.

Extraterrestrial is about April (Brittany Allen - All My Children (1970), The Rocker (2008), Dead Before Dawn 3D (2012)) and her boyfriend Kyle (Freddie Stroma - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011), Pitch Perfect (2012)) heading out to her parents cabin for some alone time. Kyle invited some friends and told April that he invited them to go on the trip with them after the friends arrived. April was mad, but they all went on their road trip which includes some beautiful sceneries. After a few scenes, the group saw a flashing fire looking light resembling a humongous shooting star crashing into the ground. They of course venture out to take a look and could not believe their eyes, a spaceship, indeed. After sometime, the group began fighting to save their lives from the aliens. Watch the movie to see all the details.

I gave this movie a five because it was an okay watch, but definitely something that I will not watch again. The movie was slow at first but gained my interests after the fire shooting from the sky crashed into the ground. There was a little too much shaky camera action for my preference. I found myself saying at the end of the movie; "she went through that whole ordeal and still manage to keep on her skinny/tiny necklace on - how in the world…" Also, how did they get all that muck off of their bodies and face when they awoke in a green field with trees at the ending. I had many what and ifs but maybe I was a little too picky during this movie experience. The special effects were purely amazing and did justice for this movie. I love the part when the spaceship lifted up the girl - it was a beautiful sight. Another predictable scene for me was a tree falling to the ground, blocking them from leaving the cabin and therefore retreating to the cabin - cliche any bit. There were so many movies that came to mind while watching this movie.
