V/H/S: Viral Review
Synopsis:A Los Angeles police chase sends a fame-obsessed man on a wild ride to save his girlfriend from a cybernetic terror.
V/H/S: Viral (2014) is an American anthology thriller horror movie that is a series of found-footage short clips written and directed by various directors. V/H/S: Viral contains sexual content, nude scenes, violence, disturbing material, drug use, bad language, suspense, a little gore and some frightening scenes. I had high hopes for this movie, and it did not fulfill my expectations.
Vicious Circle - Marcel Sarmiento (Deadgirl (2008), The ABCs of Death (2012), Heavy Petting (2007))
Vicious Circle is also known as The Wraparound. It is about a couple who gets intertwined in a nice chaotic chase between an ambulance and the cops. This short movie was surprisingly great at first but ended up being too much shaky camera action for me to endure.
Dante the Great - Gregg Bishop (Dance of the Dead (2008), The Other Side (2006), Voodoo (1999))
Dante the Great is about a magician that gets ahold of a magical cloak that once belonged to Houdini. He soon becomes a star and becomes aware of the mysterious dark secret that the cloak has and - well watch the movie to see. The special effects were awesome in this segment and stood out more than the other segments.
Parallel Monsters - Justin Benson (Timecrimes (2007), Open Windows (2014), 7:35 in the Morning (2003))
Parallel Monsters is about a guy that uses a machine to discover a parallel universe. He found someone in this parallel universe and decides to do some experiments with that person that went terribly wrong and resulted in… This is by far the funniest, creepiest and best segment in its series
Bonestorm - Aaron Scott Moorhead (Resolution (2012), Walk a Mile in My Pradas (2011), The Colombian Connection (2011)) and Nacho Vigalondo (Resolution (2012), Spring (2014), Wrecked (2013))
Bonestorm is about a group of idlers who got themselves into trouble after going partying in Tijuana. This segment appeared to take forever to finish, and I just wanted it to be over after a period of time watching it. It was not that enjoyable for me because it did not make much sense. I think when it comes to mini segments; it is better for it to be directed by one dedicated director than two.
I would recommend V/H/S fans to watch this series but do not put your expectations too high and if you do not want to be disappointed then, please do stay clear of this movie. The actors were great, but the screenplay for some segments was weak. I would not mind seeing Parallel Monsters and Dante the Great being made into full-length movies. This movie would have received a score of 2 from me but Parallel Monsters and Dante the Great saved it.
