Synopsis:Strange things begin to happen when a group of friends gather for a dinner party on an evening when a comet is passing overhead.
Coherence (2013) is an American science fiction thriller movie that I will watch again. Director and co-writer James Ward Byrkit (Rango (2011), Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006)) shines his true talents in this movie as he did with many others. Watch the film, and you will not be disappointed because there are so many movies out there that are a total disaster. I love that I was able to connect to the characters after being introduced to all of them.
Coherence starts by showing us a group of people attending a dinner party in a suburban house in Northern California. That very same night, the comet is expected and broadcast to pass really close to the earth. They had their dinner and mingled casually, but things began to take a turn not so long after. Em (Emily Baldoni - Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009), The Lost Tribe (2009), Grizzly Park (2008)) is a dancer. Em takes her boyfriend Kevin (Maury Sterling - The A-Team (2010), Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011), Hart’s War (2002)) to a dinner party. Kevin’s ex-girlfriend Laurie (Lauren Maher - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006), Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007)) is also at the dinner. There is two other people at the dinner and also Hugh (Hugo Armstrong - Lay the Favorite (2012), OK, Good (2012), Weak Species (2009)) who is a tall bearded guy that constantly keeps on trying to contact his friend to find out more information about their current dilemma. Hugh returned from a trip and peeped through the window of the only lighted house in the neighborhood to see the group having dinner. Got you thinking, watch the movie to see what I am talking about.
The movie took place in the night time for the most part of it and in the house. I dislike that I could not see the actors and what they are doing when they wander about outside of the home. The director/movie can blame the darkness on the comet taking out electricity but on a dark night outside you can still see things. The movie definitely creeped me out to an extent where I have not been for a long time. There is violence in this movie and some frightening, intense scenes. Imagine you are in a house with other people and you do not know who they are.
