Synopsis:A group of online chat room friends find themselves haunted by a mysterious, supernatural force using the account of their dead friend.
Unfriended (2014) is an American found footage supernatural horror movie that is also known as Offline (2014) and was initially released as Cybernatural (2014). The movie was filmed in Santa Clarita, California, USA with a runtime of 82 minutes. Director Levan Gabriadze (Lucky Trouble (2011), Yolki 2 (2011), Yolki 3 (2013)) did an excellent job bringing writer Nelson Greaves (My Bloody Madeleine: The Making of Swann’s Blood (2009), Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012), Sleepy Hollow (2013)) screenplay to live.
Blaire Lily (Shelley Hennig - Ouija (2014), The Secret Circle (2011), Teen Wolf (2011)) and her boyfriend Mitch (Moses Jacob Storm - Correcting Christmas (2014)) are having an intimate skype date when the unexpected happens. There was a computer glitch during their intimate skype date and their friends Jess ( Renee Olstead), Adam (Will Peltz), and Ken (Jacob Wysocki) was added to the conversation. The group began having a group discussion about prom, plans for the weekend until they notice someone hacking into their Skype session. The group tried to knock the invader off of their Skype session but got interrupted by Facebook messages from Laura Barns (Heather Sossaman) who had died over a year ago. Laura committed suicide after someone releases an embarrassing video of her passed out at a party. The group of friends now begin second guessing themselves how much do they really know each other. Blaire, Mitch, Adam, Jess and Ken were some of Laura’s unpopular classmates that treated her terrible after the video leaked. Laura was the most popular girl in school until everyone humiliated her after the video leaked. The group of friends are now threatened that if they disconnect from the chat or stop talking then they will die. The intruder made the friends eventually reveal who leaked the video amongst other secrets that test their friendship.
I love the fact that the movie occurs in real time and a little troubled that we only see what is on Blaire’s desktop. All the actors did a phenomenal job with their parts and really did look like high school kids. I like the scene where we see the group of friends playing “Never Have I Ever,” game that they were forced into doing. This movie was beautifully done, and I will see it again.
