Synopsis:A mysterious warrior teams up with the daughter and son of a deposed Chinese Emperor to defeat their cruel brother, who seeks their deaths.
Outcast (2014) is an American-Chinese-Canadian action adventure movie that is 99 minutes long and was filmed in Yunnan, China and Baoding, China. I was disappointed upon seeing this movie because I was anticipating beautiful action scenes. There was action scenes but did not meet my expectations. Director Nick Powell (Cinderella Man (2005), The Bourne Identity (2002), Batman (1989), The Last Samurai (2003)) has over 113 stunt credits. He is a stunt person and does not have any experience in directing a movie. He failed at directing his first movie, Outcast, and I do hope he sticks to what he knows best, being a stuntman.
Outcast started by introducing us to Gallain ( Nicolas Cage - Leaving Las Vegas (1995), National Treasure (2004), Moonstruck (1987), Kick-Ass (2010)) and Jacob ( Hayden Christensen) who were going through the Middle East in the 15th century. Gillian came to the point where he is tired of killing/slaughtering the enemy’s soldiers. He does not like killing the enemies in the manner that they are doing it, and there was way too much bloodshed for Gallain.
The movie now fast forwards to three years later where Jacob (Hayden Christensen - Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005), Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002), Jumper (2008), Awake (2007)) is addicted to opium and desperately needs money. Warlord Shing (Andy On - Mad Detective (2007), Blackhat (2015), True Legend (2010), Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon (2008)) wants to become king but he did not earn the right to. Shing sent his men to look for his sister Lian (Yifei Liu - Shen diao xia lu (2006), The Forbidden Kingdom (2008), Sien nui yau wan (2011), The Four (2012)) and younger brother. They ran away and took the royal seal with them because Lian’s younger brother is entitled to the throne. Lian found Jacob, who is now trying to protect her and her brother from Shing’s men. Jacob knew that he could not do it by himself, so he went to Gallain.
The movie was way too predictable and did not have any twists. I knew that Lian would fall for Jacob and Jacob would become a father figure for her younger brother by teaching him how to use a bow and arrow amongst other stuff. I would not recommend this movie because there was no suspense, and the special effects were between good and bad with excellent being the highest. The actors did an okay job, but Nicolas Cage could have done better - maybe he thought, what did I get myself into after actually acting in the movie!!!
