Synopsis:A young programmer is selected to participate in a ground-breaking experiment in synthetic intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a breath-taking humanoid A.I.
Ex Machina (2015) is a British science fiction thriller movie that is 108 minutes long and was filmed in various locations in Norway and England, UK. Director and writer Alex Garland (28 Days Later… (2002), Dredd (2012), Sunshine (2007), The Beach (2000)) did a phenomenal job executing this action packed movie. The movie contains nudity, sexual content/reference, violence, bad language, suspense, sitting on the edge of your seat moments, thrills, bad language and lots of action.
Ex Machina revolves around Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson - About Time (2013), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011), Unbroken (2014), True Grit (2010)) who is a 26 year old computer programmer/coder. Caleb works for the world’s largest internet company and has won a competition to meet the CEO, Nathan (Oscar Isaac - Drive (2011), Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), A Most Violent Year (2014), Sucker Punch (2011)) who is the company. He also gets to spend one week at Nathan’s private house/retreat in the mountains. Caleb was shocked to find out why he won the competition and what is in store for him. Upon arrive at the retreat, he found out that he has to take part in an experiment that will let him interact with the first humanoid artificial intelligence in the world. The artificial intelligence is an Android named Ava (Alicia Vikander - A Royal Affair (2012), Seventh Son (2014), Son of a Gun (2014)) who is very pretty. Caleb began having emotions for Ava and is now on a mission to help Ava escape because he knows that if the test/experiment fails then Ava’s memory will be wiped cleaned. Caleb stole Nathan’s key card and disengaged the security protocols on Ava’s last night of the test. Watch the movie to see the outcome. Will Caleb be able to help Ava escape? Does Ava seem too good to be true and have other motives? Will Nathan figure out that his keycard is missing? Will anyone die?
The movie had me on my toes as the suspense was there all the time, I love the movie and will watch it again. I do recommend it to other viewers who like a good action flick. The sets were amazing, and so was the special effects. I could not get enough of the movie and enjoyed every bit of it. The cinematography was spectacular. I was wrong with my idea of how the movie was going to end and I like that the movie was not predictable in most cases.
