Blood and Carpet Review
Synopsis:In the late 1960s there were no CCTV or crime scene DNA testing, but disposing of a dead body was still bloody murder.
Blood and Carpet (2015) is a UK English comedy thriller horror movie that is 76 minutes long and was filmed in Hastings, East Sussex, England, UK and Hackney, London, England, UK. Director and writer Graham Fletcher-Cook (The French Lieutenant’s Woman (1981), A Little Romance (1979), Sid and Nancy (1986), Defense of the Realm (1986)) did a fantastic job bringing us this phenomenal movie. Blood and Carpet are set in the late 1960s and did a great job filming the movie in black and white. I could not stop looking at the costumes, make-up, hair, design and sets. I love every bit of this movie and will watch it again and again. I love all the tiny things it captures, and it was almost flawless to me.
Blood and Carpet begins by showing us barrister Rhodes (Bill Fellows - The Tournament (2009), United (2011), As He Lay Falling (2014), King of the Sands (2013)) interrogating a prisoner. We do not hear or see the prisoner while he is being questioned about crimes that he may have committed. We then see a couple, Lyle (Billy Wright - Betsy & Leonard (2012), Hi, Hello (2006), Davestation (2013)) and Ruby (Annie Burkin) who has quite a bit of problems. One of their major problems is blood on their living room rug and a dead body in their bathroom. Lyle is trying to figure out a way for them to get rid of the dead body as Ruby is scrubbing furiously with no result. Lyle’s brother Melvin (Frank Boyce - Horatio Hornblower: The Duel (1998), Horatio Hornblower: The Fire Ship (1998), Face (1997), Dragonfly (2015)) unexpectedly drops by. Melvin is obnoxious in so many ways, orders Ruby to make him cookies, invites himself over for dinner and other meals and also flirts with Ruby in an attempt to get in bed with her. Ruby is scared and is trying to put her brother-in-law out of their home before he notices what is going on. Lyle is cutting up the dead body as his brother Melvin is trying to make the moves on Ruby. Ruby got upset after her argument with Lyle and headed out to her pub to meet her friend. Melvin enters the bar not too long after. Watch this spectacular movie to see all it has to offer.
The end of the movie surprised the heck out of me as I imagined a different outcome. It was tricky to keep up with this movie as there are many twists and I was mostly mesmerized by its beauty. I gave this movie an eight because I do not like movies that contain flashbacks.
