Alone (2015) Review

Alone (2015) is an Indian horror movie that is 133 minutes long and was not that bad. I love horror, and I love Indian movies, and that is one main reason I was eager to see this movie. Director Bhushan Patel does not have the experience to bring this movie to life and execute it to its full potential - he should stay away from directing and pursue other jobs in the movie industry. I enjoyed watching this movie because I had an open mind while seeing it. The director did not do justice to the screenplay.

The movie revolves around Sanjana (Bipasha Basu - Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), Dhoom 2 (2006), Race (2008)) who was a conjoined twin. The movie starts by showing us a huge branch from a tree falling on an outhouse roof and breaks it. The break in the roof released a dark demonic entity that put Sanjana’s mother (Neena Gupta - Gandhi (1982), Who Pays the Piper (1983), Vasthuhara (1991)) into a coma after she inspected the outhouse. Sanjana flew to Kerala to be by her mother’s side and soon began having paranormal visions. She now believes that her dead conjoined sister’s soul is torturing her. Her husband Kabir Dhanraj (Karan Singh Grover) does not believe Sanjana and sends her for spiritual healing from his former Professor. Sanjana felt guilty for her sister’s death and told the professor how her sister died. Sanjana and Kabir were dating, and Anjana was jealous that Kabir liked Sanjana more than her. Kabir was abroad and told Sanjana that he was coming back. Sanjana will separate herself from her conjoined sister Anjana. Anjana died during the surgery, and that is why Sanjana blames herself for her sister’s death. Skip forward, Sanjana is now possessed by Anjana and not so long after, spiritual rituals are performed which resulted in an exorcism.

Sanjana told Kabir the truth after he threatens to leave her. The truth is that after Kabir had told Sanjana that he was coming back, Anjana tried to kill her because she had feelings for him as well. Sanjana then hit her sister on the head with a glass music box that accidentally killed her. Their mother covered the murder to protect her only surviving daughter and buried Anjana under the outhouse. There is more to the movie. Watch the movie to see if Sanjana survives her sister’s wrath and what happens to the mother? Will Kabir leave Sanjana? What will happen to Anjana’s dead body?

The acting was great, and the sets were a nice treat. I do not like to watch the songs in Indian movies so I cannot comment on that because I usually zone out. I would recommend this movie to horror fans with an open mind to watch. It was a change for me from the regular English movies.
