Hotel Transylvania 2 Plot Synopsis:

The Drac pack is back for an all-new monster comedy adventure in Sony Pictures Animation's Hotel Transylvania 2! Everything seems to be changing for the better at Hotel Transylvania... Dracula's rigid monster-only hotel policy has finally relaxed, opening up its doors to human guests. But behind closed coffins, Drac is worried that his adorable half-human, half-vampire grandson, Dennis, isn't showing signs of being a vampire. So while Mavis is busy visiting her human in-laws with Johnny - and in for a major cultural shock of her own - "Vampa" Drac enlists his friends Frank, Murray, Wayne and Griffin to put Dennis through a "monster-in-training" boot camp. But little do they know that Drac's grumpy and very old, old, old school dad Vlad is about to pay a family visit to the hotel. And when Vlad finds out that his great-grandson is not a pure blood - and humans are now welcome at Hotel Transylvania - things are going to get batty!

Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015) Review

Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015) is an American family computer-animated fantasy movie that can be viewed in 3, filled with comedy and is the sequel to Hotel Transylvania (2012). The movie had a budget of $80 million and as of October 25, 2015, has grossed over $315 million worldwide. Director Genndy Tartakovsky (Hotel Transylvania (2012), Dexter’s Laboratory (1996), Dexter’s Laboratory: Ego Trip (1999), Samurai Jack (2001)) did a marvelous job bringing us this very entertaining family movie.

Hotel Transylvania 2 takes place a short time after the first movie where we now see Mavis (Selena Gomez - Spring Breakers (2012), Hotel Transylvania (2012), Monte Carlo (2011), Another Cinderella Story (2008)) is married. Mavis received her father’s Dracula (Adam Sandler - Grown Ups 2 (2013), Grown Ups (2010), Big Daddy (1999), Happy Gilmore (1996)) approval to marry Jonathan/Johnny. Johnny (Andy Samberg - Hotel Transylvania (2012), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013), Saturday Night Live (1975), Hot Rod (2007)) and Mavis became a family of three a year later. Thier son, Dennis (Asher Blinkoff) did not grow his fangs as he is now approaching his fifth birthday. Dracula is very worried that his grandson Dennis might not receive his vampire powers. He is also worried because Mavis does not like the environment for Dennis to grow up in and plans on moving to where Johnny grew up. Dracula came up with a plan to send Mavis and Johnny away leaving Dennis with him so that he can change his grandson before it is too late.

Dracula recruited his friends to help him help Dennis to become a monster that did not help, so he then took Dennis to a summer camp to learn how to hone his vampire abilities, but that also failed. Mavis and Johnny were furious with Dracula after seeing a video of him catching Dennis at the last moment before he could have been killed. Mavis angrily told her father why he cannot accept that Dennis is human and that by all means, she and her family will leave the hotel after Dennis’ fifth birthday. Dennis’ fifth birthday party quickly turns into a disaster as the family quarrels and Dennis ventures out into the forest unknown to his family. What happened next was a shocker but I will not spoil it as it is a movie to see by all age groups.

The film is filled with humor but will only be appreciated if viewers watch it with an open mind knowing that it is a kids movie with no real deep plot. I think the overall message is for kids to accept who they are and for families to accept people for who they are and only a person can change himself/herself when the time is right. It is a movie that I will watch several times with my family once I own it on Blu-ray/DVD. The voice actors did an incredible job with their voice-overs, and the computer animation could not have been any better. I gave this movie a nine because there were a few goofs. Mavis was seen drinking multiple Slurpees, and her teeth appear to be her normal color after drinking many Slurpees, but her teeth become multi-colored after drinking her last one - weird. Why do the vampires show up or can be seen in videos, chats and security cameras but cannot show up in mirrors? Here is a funny one, Dracula is shown throughout the film having long sharp nails, and then short round nails, then long sharp nails again and short round nails and so it goes on - inconsistency. My last one is that Jonathan was mentioned in the first movie that he has six siblings but in this film for some reason he has only three siblings. Overall, families should watch this movie and include it on their watch again list.
