The Inhabitants Review
Synopsis:A young couple gets more than they bargained for when they buy an historic bed and breakfast in New England only to discover that the old house is hiding a dark secret within its walls.
The Inhabitants (2015) is an American low-budget thriller horror movie that was filmed in Noyes-Parris House, Wayland, Massachusetts, USA and Salem, Massachusetts, USA. Directors and writers Michael Rasmussen and Shawn Rasmussen are brothers that are known for working together. A few movies that they wrote are (The Ward (2010), Dark Feed (2013), Long Distance (2005)), and they have excelled working together. The directors did a fantastic job executing the movie, but it was too much of a cliche with predictable scenes to be greatly enjoyed by me. True horror fans might want to pass on this film as there is no real suspense and contains a storyline that has been seen too many times.
The Inhabitants reminds me of the Goosebumps stories but in an adult-way that does not give jump scares. The movie revolves around newlyweds Jessica (Elise Couture-Stone - Heredity (2010), 27 Down (2009), Dark Feed (2013)) and Dan living in an old bed and breakfast in the countryside that they recently bought. Dan (Michael Reed - The Disco Exorcist (2011), Normal (2013), Alice D (2014)) and Jessica did not take long to discover their new home has many dark secrets that were left by its previous owners. Dan noticed that his wife is acting abnormally after he returned from a business trip and began to investigate the local legends and the house. What will Dan find out about his haunted home? Will Jessica and Dan survive this ordeal?
I gave this movie a five because it was somewhat enjoyable, but I would have liked for the directors to give a little something extra to make the film stand out from the rest of haunted house movies. The movie was very straightforward with no twist or suspense, but there was something about the directing skills that made the movie a little entertaining. A few of the actors did not help the film as their acting was at time unbelievable because of them trying to give a convincing performance instead of relaxing. The sound design should be watched with a surround set because it was one of the best things about the movie because it was horrifying and unsettling.
