Hidden Review

A family takes refuge in a fallout shelter to avoid a dangerous outbreak.

Hidden (2015) is an American drama thriller horror movie that is also known as Hidden: Terror en Kingsville (2015) and was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Directors and writers Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer are known for Stranger Things (2016), We All Fall Down (2005), Eater (2007), and are also known as The Duffer Brothers. The directors did a wonderful giving us enough information to make us attached to the characters/actors who all did a great job with their performances. I was not pleased with the slow pace but loved the tension, storyline buildup and that I got to feel as though I know the characters. Horror fans should not expect the movie to contain much gore or violence because it does not although it manages to keep you engage with different aspects. The film, however, did provide a few incredible twists with surprising plots that will make you go, hmmm. I was not thrilled with the flashbacks and applaud the directors for not overdoing it. The final scene was the best part of the movie, but this movie is not meant for those individuals who does not have the patience it takes to sit through a slow paced churning movie.

Hidden revolves around the average American family who happens to be in this case a couple with a daughter living in Kingsville, North Carolina. Ray (Alexander Skarsgard - True Blood (2008), Generation Kill (2008), Battleship (2012), Melancholia (2011)) and his family are normal but not that normal. Ray, his wife Claire (Andrea Riseborough - Oblivion (2013), Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014), Happy-Go-Lucky (2008), Made in Dagenham (2010)) and their daughter Zoe have been living for the past 301 days in a bomb shelter. They live in the bomb shelter after escaping a viral outbreak that changed the world. The family soon discovers that they do not have many rations left and to make it worse, a rat has also been eating their food, so they have to find it before it takes anymore. There was an accidental fire while trying to kill the rat that lead smoke out of their hiding resulting in seven-year-old Zoe to believe that the breathers will find them. What happens next was mind blowing as I did not see it coming. The movie was slow paced but well worth the time because it delivers.
