The Chosen Review

When a child-stealing demon attaches itself to a little girl, her family is thrust into a battle against time in order to save the girl and send the demon back to hell.

The Chosen (2015) is an American horror movie that is a dreary 88 minutes long and was filmed in Los Angeles, California, USA. First-Time co-writer and director Ben Jehoshua does not have what it takes to make a fantastic horror movie that will make viewers shiver in their seats. The movie had about two jump scares with a generic/bland storyline that was all over the place. First-time movie actor, YouTube sensation Kian Lawley starred in this movie and did a great job with his role - he was the best actor in the entire movie. The movie contains content not suitable for younger audience.

The Chosen revolves around Cameron (Kian Lawley) who is left in charge of his niece, Angie (Mykayla Sohn - Guys with Kids (2012), Marza (2014), Everything Twas (2013)) while his sister is away. There is other family members of Cameron in this movie but does not play much of a role. Fast forward from some of what we have seen in the trailer - a demon possesses/attaches itself to Angie and refuses to leave. After a few events, Cameron found out that there is only one way he can rid the demon from Angie and be able to keep her alive. That way is to kill several family members that will result in him freeing the demon from Angie’s soul. Cameron began killing off his family members, one by one but will he be able to save his niece in time?

The movie suffers in many ways, and one of those ways is for the director not being able to make the viewers feel emotions toward the characters or making them attached to the characters. The graphics, CGI, screenplay, directorial skills, sound, plot, cinematography, and editor did not help this movie with their not so good attributes. Overall I advise horror fans and everyone, in general, to stay away from this movie because it is not worth seeing even on a rainy day. I gave this movie a score of two because YouTube star Kian Lawley helped the movie with his acting skills and also because of the two jump scares that I encountered.
