Condemned (2015) is an American English horror movie that fell short in many ways including lousy acting from the actors. First-time full-length director Eli Morgan Gesner did a horrible job executing his first screenplay. Eli needs to spend more time in the movie industry as an apprentice before making another film. Eli was once a skateboarder who then transitioned to being a fashion designer and then decide to give the film industry a try. I do not know how well he was as a designer or skateboarder, but maybe he should have just stuck to one of those instead if wasting his money on Condemned. Ironically, condemned is what this movie is!!! The movie was all over the place (scattered), gory in its best and that is the main reason the film received a three from me, and it was a big heap of mess. Gorehounds will love this movie because it is filled with spillage.
Maya (Dylan Penn - Elvis & Nixon (2016), Flag Day (2017)) is a young rich girl who decided to visit her boyfriend in the big city. Maya’s boyfriend Dante (Ronen Rubinstein - Detachment (2011), It Felt Like Love (2013), Something in the Way (2013), Jamie Marks Is Dead (2014)) lives with a couple of the people in his band, supposedly living the life or so they think. Dante happens to live in the Lower East Side where it is basically a dump of a place he resides in that is infested with druggies in all form. Forgot to mention, Maya seeing the dump her boyfriend lives in still decides to move in with him because she could not take her parents fighting anymore. The area/building is more toxic than anyone can imagine as it is so filthy with human waste and garbage everywhere causing bacteria to breed. The environment is a terrible one to live in as the occupants are becoming infected with boils covering their body. Not to mention constant other things that leave Maya and Dante to fight to save their lives - bet Maya is sorry for leaving her rich-girl lifestyle now.
Many viewers, even those with an open mind will start asking themselves, where in the world is this movie going, why am I still sitting here watching Condemned? There is not much good to say about this film except that it shows us how low life can get, so people have to be content with what they have because there is always someone who has it worse than them. I also gave this movie a three because it was a low budget movie that did not have much to work with and it was a new director without experience. On another note, I have seen excellent movies made with a ten thousand dollar budget.
