Synopsis:The Gates family dream house turns quickly into a nightmare when their life is disturbed by the deranged...
Crawlspace (2013) is an American thriller horror movie that is 90 minutes and was filmed in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles, California, USA. Josh Stolberg (Piranha 3D (2010), Good Luck Chuck (2007), Piranha 3DD (2012), Sorority Row (2009)) did an amazing job executing Crawlspace as the director and co-writer. One major issue I had with this film is that I did not feel for any of the characters and did not root for them to die or stay alive although the screenplay was better than most I have seen recently. I could not get over how inventive the death scenes were; images of the deaths kept reappearing in my head for some strange reason, unique deaths by a psycho. The family was great, and the acting of the characters was awesome, but there was a shortage that kept me from getting attach to any of the characters.
Tim (Jonathan Silverman - Weekend at Bernie’s (1989), The Single Guy (1995), 12:01 (1993), Weekend at Bernie’s II (1993)) and Susan Gates bought their dream house despite knowing that a few children had drowned in the house. Susan (Lori Loughlin - Full House (1987), 90210 (2008), Old Dogs (2009), Rad (1986)) and her family are excited to move into their new home. The Gates family started to experience strange occurrences such as the garbage can being taken out without anyone’s knowledge, garage door opening, and closing by itself and other things.
We did not take long to see the house’s previous owner Aldon Webber (Steven Weber - Wings (1990), Leaving Las Vegas (1995), Single White Female (1992), Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995)) climbing down a ladder from the crawlspace. He acts as though the house is still his as he cleaned himself and ate the Gates family food. He even took The Gates college-bound daughter, Kayla’s (Raleigh Holmes - Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller - Episode 4: The Cain Killer (2013), Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller - Episode 2: The Wise Monkey (2013)) stuffed unicorn. Aldon became more sinister as the time passed and kept a close eye on the family through the air vents because he has the plan to get back his home and take the children too.
The neighbor notifies the family of seeing Aldon moving around their home during the day and that they need to leave the house as soon as possible. The neighbor was found dead shortly after with the content of a vacuum emptied into her body. I was sick to my stomach after seeing what Aldon did to his ex-wife and where he kept his previous victims. The Gates family is in fear for their life as Tim holds a pistol, Shane holds his paintball gun while the other family members sleep close by them. What happens next was unpredictable in the sense that I did not see Aldon as the crazed killer that he turned out to be and that is not a spoiler. Thriller fans should give this movie a try because it is a hit or miss and it was a hit for my taste buds.
